Your last laptop purchase for personal use

Simple, takes 5-10 minutes, and definitely more gender-inclusive than either the salon hair care one or the non-fat ice cream one. XD;; Would be particularly interested in responses from people who are older and/or non-techie - twentysomething whizzes don't need more help, by definition. If anyone doesn't mind forwarding the link to family members or colleagues that would be awesome.

(I'll expand on the Switzerland thing but in another post methinks!)

I am old, and not a techie. But... I have never purchased a laptop (nor have been given one as a gift).

Thank God. I mean, I go to the coffeehouse and see all these people with their laptops and think, "Poor things."

Webcam included, wireless included, software included are neither important nor unimportant because all of the laptops in the Big Box stores include these things. So if you walk into the store determined to walk out with a laptop, they're nonfactors.

I did the survey because I bought the laptop I am using AT THIS MOMENT about a month ago, yay!

Tho I was somewhat troubled by the lack of an option for "the people I bought it from did not offer any kind of warranty or post-sale service" which I think is, in this case, because Apple takes care of all of that for them. I don't even know if they'd be permitted to offer anything if they wanted to.

Unfortunately all of the non-techies I know don't have laptops, and the only older person I know with one is my dad, who is a huge nerd and who finds surveys invasive (BOOOOOO). So no help there.

HD size, RAM, and OS have become unimportant to me since I've gained confidence in being able to modify those for myself. ^^;;  Although I guess the limits for the RAM is still important....

My attitude when I got my current computer was much different from how I'd go about my next purchase, though, which should happen within a year or so.

I saw Skinny Cow products at the supermarket (in Australia) for the first time the other day. The cow mascot seemed less disturbing on the products than it did on their website. Maybe by the time I saw the products in the flesh, I'd already been mentally prepared by your LJ post. XD

I. I live in Indonesia. I hope it's okay that I filled the survey too. 8D;

My laptop is around five years old (I am mildly shocked by this realisation), but have sent the link around to a handful of relatives. They aren't the best about web-based survey things, though, so not sure how much good it'll end up doing. XD;

Don't - if they didn't have their laptop they would have to do the same work but in a cubicle and not the coffee place! XD;

Not everyone buys laptops in big box stores though! (Right now top two contenders are Apple and Dell websites respectively - Dell at least allows you to select wireless and software options.)

You could put neutral/neither important nor unimportant, I think. XD

Ha, perhaps - there's a psychological principle that says people will like things better simply for having been exposed to them repeatedly (which explains a lot, for instance how stupid and ugly clothing items manage to become fashionable).

As part of this project I have actually redesigned the logo to be 50% LESS DISTURBING.

It's fine (...as long as you estimated your income in Canadian dollars I guess? XD;;)

I may have done that. I don't actually recall anymore.

Haha, that would explain it!

Would love to see the original and your redesign next to each other.

I also had a think about why the original is so disturbing. Maybe it's because the womanly figure carries certain connotations -- connotations that should not be associated with animals.

I know! Just explaining my answers. I bought a new laptop less than a month ago, so I can remember the relief/indignation of not being allowed to choose NO Vista/webcam.
