Adam Green, Le Studio (Just For Laughs Museum), June 6

Knew about this one months in advance but didn't think about getting tickets until the night before, due to lack of brain cells to allocate to low-priority tasks such as gig attendance. XD; Didn't bother to dress for it either, which ironically enough made for the right level of indie uncaring, because that was the most hipster audience I have ever seen in my entire life you guys. All 150 of them. The opening act was insane performance art and made us do "Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes (Knees and Toes)", and even they were like, "LOL, don't be too cool to participate!"

My sister has - illegitimately - Adam Green's entire back catalogue. It's worth investigating if one doesn't mind one's first impression being WTFFFF THIS IS RETARDED (take your pick: he intentionally sounds like Fat Elvis, the lyrics are obscenity-laced, the tune is nonexistant or really catchy... until you realize it's ripping off "La Cumparsita"). Basically dude is a Dadaist and as such the work rewards a state of attention drift. A best-of focussed on melodic peaks would convey the impression of an endearing if eccentric singer-songwriter - it took me minutes to come up with a workable tracklisting covering all five albums - but suspect the fanbase would have something to say about that.

If that made no sense, this onstage outfit says it all:

Adam Green

KIND OF AWESOME AMIRITE. And yes, dude was totally plastered (but so were the hipsters so it evens out). He skipped a couple of songs on his setlist but played "What a Waster" acoustic which I wasn't expecting, apparently because... peeps showed up at soundcheck and requested it. I wish I could reproduce the onstage banter about the vegetable rockers, too; that shit was genius. ^^;

Adam Green - Baby's Gonna Die Tonight: I've been trying to figure out why I know this song so well before ever consciously hearing it. Was it used in a movie? Did someone put it in a FST? Was it on the actual radio? Adam Green does creepy psycho surprisingly well; something to do with the way one can't tell if he means what he's singing or if he's just happily stoned.

Adam Green - Friends of Mine: whereas this is merely ridiculously catchy (violins!). It's fun to sing and makes complete sense if you think of it as being Godard. XD My first choice if I had to make a FST for Pierrot Le Fou.

Adam Green - Bungee: there was this incident during the encore, right, when everyone was shouting requests and Adam Green was like okay I'll do "Carolina", and this one dude (who looked about eighteen) was like no no nonoNONOFUCKNO! Sing "Bungee"! That's an awesome song! So then Adam's like, I'll sing it solo, and the guy's like NO! WITH THE FULL BAND! IF YOU STILL REMEMBER HOW TO PLAY IT! WHICH YOU SHOULD! EVEN I CAN PLAY IT AND I SUCK! IT'S SIMPLE!

Upon which Adam got him onstage to play it - and he promptly effed it up, so Adam went >_> and showed him how. Then sang it to crazy fanboy's guitar accompaniment + rest of band. And it was awesome! Happi endo♥(!?) ...Actually there is a postscript, namely that when sororial unit and I were walking down the Main afterward whom should we cross but selfsame fanboy and friend, lugging a case of 24 back to the venue where all the hipster girls were smoking out front. So idk, maybe lower Saint-Laurent saw a party that night. I'm going to stop making fun now because they'll find me off the Libertines LJ forums or something.

Personally I bought the poetry book, following my principle of buying whichever merchandise item is oddest as long as it's not obviously overpriced. It's surprisingly good! ...I don't know why I always expect people's poetry to be bad. XD; More sensible than expecting them to be good? Though the contents aren't so much poems as pillow-book musings in ADD one-liner stylee. Would make good prompts for [livejournal.com profile] 31_days.

Sorry to ask again, but I thought maybe you didn't see my other comment... I was wondering if you plan on going to Otakuthon on July 26th and/or 27th? Would you be interested in meeting up there if you're going? I haven't yet bought my ticket though, since I missed the deadline for pre-ordering. :\

Sure - maybe I will build a list out of Adam Green's poetry book XD (though I'd have to decide whether to remove or keep instances of the word "cock").
