[livejournal.com profile] sesame_seed's mix, because I ♥ her, although a) not what she expected to get, I don't think, and b) essentially strong-armed her into "betaing". XD;

Seven of Hearts was conceived as the soundtrack to a (then) non-existent movie, this is more a collection of image songs - in theory, one for each major character and/or relationship. In practice it doesn't quite pan out. Some are applicable to more than one situation, and I've kicked off enough Ren/Nana tracks to compile an EP in its own right. I told Chrissie it wasn't finished but probably I should dot the line and move on (and catch up with the French tankoubon release for once ^^;).

I spent around 60$ on CDs in order to make this (not a brag, a proof of insanity). No Japanese songs this time around, no tying the whole together by ganking Nevermind the Bollocks, few artist repeats. Instead there's glam rock and somewhat inappropriate dance remixes. "Being Boring" is of course a Pet Shop Boys cover; the lyrics are puzzlingly flubbed but the correspondence is compelling. Should probably have made a 3-minute edit of "Cool" (like "Read My Mind", which is for schoolboy!Naoki) but you'll have to imagine it. AND THERE'S ALWAYS LAYLA. The three tracks I've caned the most on this are "Soft Light" (Shin), "Nostalgia" (feel free to guess), and "For Lovers", the root cause of all my current troubles. I've had the mp3 ever since the single came out - in fact I'm pretty sure what I have is a radio rip - and over the years have played it countless times, in the sense that last.FM didn't count it because it didn't have an ID3 tag. The only thing I knew about the song was that it was vaguely related to the Libertines somehow. Had I not gotten into the band I may never actually have been arsed to figure out the artist credit in time to post the mix, which I guess is a positive. The negative is that I apparently developed an atavistic response to Pete Doherty's voice off it. I even put up with his indie acoustic guitar strumming, which is saying a LOT.

The other thing is I haven't re-read Nana for ages, so this falls into the realm of nebulous suspicion, but I keep eyeballing the NME scans sororial unit sends me and thinking something about this photo is dreadfully familiar. You know how Shin is into tall blonde older women and random makeouts with Ren? Trauma all around.

You will enjoy this if you like: volumes 9-15 of Nana, girls with acoustic guitars, stardust glockenspiel, the wide-screen romance of a soft-rock ballad

Oh hey, 'For Lovers'! I actually have that on an honest-to-goodness taped off the radio tape, and it's gone kind of skanky because I stored it too close to a magnet or something. So wewt^^.

I want all these CDs but I've been uber lazy. I promise to post some Entre Rios when I get it in the mail. Also, picked up the Daft Punk Alive 2007 and it is good, but when is Daft Punk not? XD
