Tried to write fancrap updates but it wasn't going anywhere, so here's some music I should've posted weeks ago. :P

Isolée - Beau Mot Plage (9.3MB)
Isolée - Beau Mot Plage (Freeform Reform Pt. 1 & 2) (14.5MB)

Promised to upload these. By themselves the two versions exemplify the ideology of "minimalism" as well as anything: the Freeform Reform is defined in the negative spaces of the original, which is comprised of the exact amount of sound necessary to schematically represent what isn't there, at least until Freeform Five decided to make the implicit jazzy bongo tropicalia explicit. I still hold that every good microhouse track should be mashup-able with a diva vocal, you just have to find the right one.

Ricardo Villalobos - 808 The Bassqueen (Queen of Bass Mix): sort of a classic. I kept hearing about how "accessible" this track was compared to Villalobos' recent productions, and when I finally got hold of it it proved to be... exactly as accessible as his recent productions. And it's twelve minutes long. WHAT WAS THE COMPLAINT AGAIN.

It is quite melodic. Moody late-night music, I guess? When I'm in a low-energy phase I use minimal techno as ambient (other people might light scented candles). At discreet volumes it makes the place smell sound like an expensive cocktail lounge, possibly frequented by [livejournal.com profile] one_if_by_land. (16.8MB)

Jamie Woon - Wayfaring Stranger (Burial Mix): dubstep version of the folk spiritual. Darkly brilliant. (8.7MB)

The Sounds - Tony The Beat (Rex The Dog Remix): this is loud. XD Poppy electro rock with Blondie-inspired girl singer. Swedish in provenance, i.e. be warned of earworm potential. (10.8MB)

Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls (Suicidal)
JoJo - Beautiful Girls

Heard this for the first time yesterday at the Ballroom Bar on St. Laurent, where the MBASA were holding the closing ceremonies for Orientation Week. I'm really behind on radio pop. The JoJo cover is sung from the girl's POV; I like how completely unapologetic it is. XD

It's a beautiful, old-fashioned, perfect summer pop song, for the good reason that it is basically a variation on "Stand By Me".

Bob Sinclar - Love Generation

In case any of you footie fans never bothered to search the PMV, which is adorable ♥. (What I need is an mp3 of "World Hold On"; it's gonna be lame if I have to buy it off Beatport, guys.)

World, Hold On

DUBSTEP! *instantly grasps for, in shocking turn of events*

It's kinda funny that I can't remember who did the Tony the Beat remix I have, despite what a mainstay of last summer it was. *snerk* Looking much forward to hearing this one, though! (Rex!) :)

I thought the Rex one was what came with the single! It's not hugely different from the original, just gussied up.

Heh, I got the one I have off some random mp3 blog last year (and consultation with my media library tells me it was the "Brooklyn Fire Remix", so that answers that), and haven't even heard the original version. :) It got a hell of a lot of play last summer on account of being on this mp3 cd I played about umpty thousand times while yanking weed at work. *has fond, fond memories of that mp3 cd*

Prague! I've never been though, only seen it in Monster. D: Looking forward to your post~

Music will be around for two weeks, as per the usual. P.S. I'm watching Nobuta, finally, except I have no subs and downloading a subbed version is too much trouble.

what is this, summer of nobuta? A good friend on my flist has been sending me multiple-exclamation-mark texts for the past few days since she's finally got round to watching it.

as ever gracias for the music. "every good microhouse track should be mashup-able with a diva vocal" => i take it you read jess harvell's total8 review? XD

I think it's been going around ever since it was broadcast - sloooowly. XD By now it is reaching the obstinate JE holdouts such as yrs trly.

Actually I've wanted to watch it since uhh you posted Seishun Amigo, only I can never be bothered to track down jdorama. ^^; I ended up borrowing it from a Korean colleague; this of course means the soft subs are in Korean. GOOD JOB.

I hadn't, in fact, had to look it up on PFork. To be honest I exempt Kompakt a little as diva vocal would send some of theirs right over the edge of irreparable cheese. Unless the diva is Kylie, then it is all right. XD

I've wanted to watch it since uhh you posted Seishun Amigo

...when I posted Seishun Amigo it was still number one! kat-tun hadn't debuted! kusano the cokehead hadn't been kicked out of news! i could name members of kt-my-ft2! the world was a shinier, more innocent place! why 2 braek heart ;_; (...hay now yr friendslist are all jE all the time, think any of them'd want a bunch of wink-ups from 2005? i'm in that 'don't want to throw away, not too inclined to keep' quandary. still haven't got up the guts to offload PoT and angel sanctuary on the second-hand manga place ^^;;; )

you could try d/ling dancestar24's softsubs off d-addicts, if they're still there? or I could up them somewhere for you, assuming you've the same raws. they're totally rough and ready, but they do contain one of my favourite 'why fansubs are better than real ones' moments, where something shuuji says is just subbed as 'omg'. YESSS.

Kylie should just join kpakt already, she'd get to be fabulous all over the place and join all the supergroups under increasingly ridiculous pseudonyms. Hey, maybe that's why, though they have girl djs, they've no girl producers? no-one but Kylie will do~

I imagine some of them would want - I don't remember who's into whom, though, apart from [livejournal.com profile] one_if_by_land likes Ryo/Uchi and [livejournal.com profile] absenceofmind is into Akame. And [livejournal.com profile] beckerbell is Arashi? Basically I can't foster the right connections. XD If you made a post I could point everyone your way, though.

I'm actually doing okay with the raws so far, it just means I have to watch the show with a modicum of wakefulness as opposed to not. XD Episode 3 so far, planning on getting through more tonight.

OMG JAMIE WOON. I TOTALLY KNOW THAT GUY.

Have been a fanfriend for years now; he has a weekly thing called OneTaste near where I live. I am beyond thrilled to find him on your playlist!!!

:0 Do elaborate (and send me some recs XD)! I don't actually know anything about him outside of this track, which I found searching mp3 blogs for stuff by Burial, but I really like it so.

He has a website: http://www.jamiewoon.com Also a Myspace on which you can listen to his stuff. Recs: Tolerate (dubstep), Gravity and Waterfront. I love the way he uses his guitar as percussion.

His gf Danni ( http://www.whatdannidoes.com ) runs a music fest called OneTaste. They specialise in singer/songwriters and Spoken Word, also some unusual acts like a gamelan/cello/koto/flute quartet. It's beautiful, really.
