Thinking about it the whole Toshiki thing was a rotten trick on the part of A&A. At least when Amon was introduced, everyone who'd fixated on the cuteness of Shido/Madoka was happy they had someone to slash with Emishi. With Toshiki it was like, you do realize anyone who is liable to give a shit about Fuuga ships Kazuki/Juubei already, right? (Exaggeration: I know all of three people who like Toshiki! And they are pretty vocal about it. But OTPers just hated the whole setup from beginning to end.)

Prince of Tennis pulled this too. I'm thinking of InuKai, which one could argue was/is the real cool-kids pairing of the series - always the minority interest but the sexiest fic, bar none. Then 3,000,000 chapters into the manga, Konomi in his infinite wisdom provides one with Data Pair, which is so perfect one could weep, especially given that it contradicts what everyone-who-cares has been shipping hardcore forever.** GOOD JOB DUDE, THANKS A BUNCH, CARRY ON.

Anyway this has nothing to do with the fic (which is cute bondage pr0n), I've just been carrying this rant inside me for years and it decided spontaneously to break into the light of day. XD;

...funny that. I was never all that interested in Kazuki/Juubei (so close to canon that they miss pushing my buttons in the way that most canon pairings do) and Toshiki by himself doesn't do it for me either, but they're inherently more interesting to me as a trio, and also I really like Ren a lot, so if you put her and Toshiki in the same scene and tell me about it, I'll run over to look. ;) And in PoT I am actually more or less Inui-all, or at least Inui-[any character I also like who it makes some measure of sense to pair with Inui].

But everyone already knows that my moe is not everyone else's moe. (I am still unclear on exactly the nuances of how it is that moe means both scary meek-fetish girls and also the things that make fangirls go squee, but in the latter sense it is a very useful word.)

The first kind of moe makes fanboys squee. XD (And I believe there is some controversy among purists as to whether fangirl-directed moe should properly be termed moe as it's not certain it refers to the same emotional spectrum, but this of course rapidly approaches TIME TO GET OFF THE INTERNET AND GET A LIFE territory.)

I'm feeling a PoT revival, oddly enough. XD

Hah. I understand the OT3 appeal in Kazuki/Toshiki/Juubei, but I've never been quite able to wrap my head around it - somehow Kazuki and Juubei seem so wrapped up in each other, I don't think the relationship would ever truly be equal; Toshiki would always come second, and he's not the sort of character who could be happy with that, in the long run.

(... which is why I eventually plan to get him together with Yukihiko. This makes perfect sense in my head, I assure you. And I second the side ff Toshiki/Lucifer; I don't think there was actually anything going on but Toshiki would have gladly gone along if there had been.)

Havn't seen PoT, so I can't comment on it, but I agree that it's a slightly dirty trick to pull.

I think everyone has that sense, insofar as it goes - actually I think that's what makes the dynamic interesting/ficcable. Otherwise JuuKazu is just kind of fait accompli. XD; (Out of the available options I tend to second Toshiki/Ren. I know this is approximately for the same reason I like Fai/Sakura in TRC, i.e. I CANNOT EXPLAIN THIS.)

Well, I know why I ship Fai/Sakura - it's about 50/50 courtly love and 50/50 erastes-eromenos. There are no illusions that it's a One True Love for Sakura, or that it will last, but it's sweet while it exists.

Toshiki/Ren I don't find as sweet, although it could be fascinatng. More so in the anime where they had a shared history, though.
