It's so bizarre when someone you don't know except for running one of your regular piracy venues turns out to have attended the same gig as you.
The Junior Boys concert was last Saturday. Ced bowed out so I was by myself at Sala Rossa, from which it follows that I started reading Trinity Blood again (more on this later), because a handbag-friendly bunko novel is a must during those hour-long dead calms when you've got your elbows on the stage waiting for the band to set up. Coincidentally it was the night of the big Habs vs Leafs game so they played it over the speakers before the gig, yea even unto the indie hipster crowd. I wanted to text Ced but I'd checked my phone with my coat. XD (After the game ended they put on the Modern Lovers.)
It was a little odd because I felt like the least enthusiastically demonstrative member of the audience. XD; It was sold out and everyone was crowded up against the stage and boogie-ing down and yelling ILU!!!11 at the band, which is just fundamentally not how I relate to the Junior Boys' music - though they were playing extended versions with live drums and bass, definitely more danceable than on record. I did dance but there were, like, headbangers. The band loved it, obviously.
A lot of the audience love also transferred to the Russian Futurists, who I think are a bit rubbish to be honest (songwriting hobbled by the vocalist's limited range, style reminiscent of the New Pornographers on keyboards but not as good, and I don't even like the New Pornographers, so. XD), but they and the Junior Boys are clearly buddies and the banter back and forth was cute. ...I probably shouldn't mention this but worthwhile for the oddity factor: I think Jeremy Greenspan was checking me out. Normally I'd assume I was imagining things but I wore the same outfit to G's Greek Easter party the day after and got hit on by three guys simultaneously, so clearly it's some value of win. The humour value? COPYING RAN'S STYLE! (Skinny jeans, extra-long hoodie, prominent headphones.)
I shouldn't be surprised because T tries to dress like Shindou Shuuichi and it's always worked for her. orz
Speaking of G's Greek Easter party... actually there's not much to say. XD There was roast lamb and heaps of food and ouzo and dancing and I met with a bunch of people that I see about once per year... at G's Greek Easter party. (It's really All-Around Orthodox Easter party since G is half Russian, i.e. he's Barrayaran. I'm not trying to be funny. If you're curious as to why Barrayaran culture is the way it is, put together a bunch of Russians and Greeks and maroon them for a few generations. I've been selling this series to G on the basis of how he should really learn more about his home planet.)
On the day of the Junior Boys concert I took my sister out to the Maple Delights café, and then we went to see Blades of Glory. XD For a Will Farrell flick it's sort of like a B+ moving up to A if (like sororial unit and me) you've watched way too much figure skating for a very long time. Nobody told me the climactic competition takes place in Montreal. XDDD Skating from the Farine Cinq-Roses to the Olympic Stadium by way of the Palais des Congrès = ROFFLE. If the Big O were where they Photoshopped it the Expos may never have left town.
Also: this is totally going to show up in the next Yuletide Exchange, isn't it.
