I should have been more specific. Brian May, you can be certain, gets frizzy in damp weather; Robert Plant has ringlets.
LZ, as mentioned, belong to T's dad, who's also into Sabbath, Whitesnake, etc. Conversely my dad's into Leonard Cohen, Nana Mouskouri, and (of course) Teresa Teng. There's probably some nature to this as well as nurture. I'm into gloomy folk and easy listening, and T was (or really still is) a huge Guns N' Roses fan. Not that I don't think Gn'R were amazing - I actually do - but when I watch their vids or whatever I'm struck dumb by how not my aesthetic they were. I wouldn't say the diametric opposite thereof, because they were excessively, blindingly flamboyant, and that at least I can get behind. XD The whole glum grungey 90s thing in rock was far worse.
T's dog is named Slash, after Gn'R's guitarist not slash fanfiction, although the mistaken assumption has been made more than once. The other reason this is funny is that we are talking about a (gorgeous, dumb) long-haired, russet-coloured golden retriever. I mean, it's not difficult to imagine what the members of Gn'R would look like as dogs. In fact it's almost irresistible. This dog is not Slash; this dog is clearly Axl. Once I even asked her about this: why didn't you name your dog Axl??? And she said "Slash" is a lot easier to say when you're yelling after your dog for doing dog things, which, well, point.
This was around the time we were re-watching all of Gn'R's music videos for no particular reason other than awesomeness. At one point we started wondering aloud why no one ever AUed Axl Rose into a manga, and then we were like wait, wasn't that basically Schuldig? LOLOL TRUFAX.
Meanwhile my sister - and I have to take responsibility for this - was exposed to "Bohemian Rhapsody" at a sensitive stage in her development, so the first band she was really, really into was Queen. (The net result being, she's way more of an actual indie rock genre fan than I am - she likes bands with boys playing guitars as a default.) Probably there are sprinkled through LJ/pitas memos of the occasions we sat down to watch Queen documentaries, of which there are surprisingly many. And she said eventually, it's sad, they all end the same way. Freddie always dies.
If you think about it, that is basically the most SADFACE statement in the universe. No matter how the story's told, Freddie always dies at the end. It's pure Golden Bough.
A DOG STORY: I was in the car with boss and boss's wife one day when we passed a woman walking a big, beautiful, curly-furred, creamy-blond dog whose breed none of us could identify. Finally boss pulls up next to the woman, rolls down the window and I (from the passenger seat) ask, excuse me ma'am, you have a lovely dog, we were wondering what breed it is?
And the woman says:
It's a goldendoodle.
Which is the official name for a golden retriever and poodle mix. But, holy shiznit, that is the best name for anything ever. GOLDENDOODLE.

So you see.

Date: 2007-03-27 11:14 pm (UTC)oh! oh! Brian May! I had the biggest crush on him as a kid! My friend and I went to several Queen concerts in the southeast region of the U.S. in... 79? 80? Blow-job Stacy sometimes got us backstage.
He was very very nice. He would always sign autographs and when people crowed the limos, he'd look out the window and say "be sure not to get your feet run over."
None of the stage people liked Freddie Mercury. One of them, I remember, carried Freddie's feather boa (left on stage) at arm's length and holding his nose.
