Last night I thought, "What would DJ Natsuki Amon play on Radio Free Mugenjou, the nec plus ultra of guerilla internet radio - at least in potentia?" And the answer came to me: DUBSTEP.

...I dunno, it was funnier at 2AM.

Trying to have three of the ficlets done by tonight, optimistically two more over the weekend. Have decided what I'm going to write for three others, which is half the battle. [livejournal.com profile] worldserpent, my practical answer to "When/why would you write fic as commentary rather than an essay, and vice versa?" is "Fic, insofar as possible, because if I write an essay detailing All I Think About Character X, and someone on my flist reads it, decides not without reason that we share a common interest in character X, and some months later requests that I write her a gift drabble concerning character X, I find myself with nothing to say that hasn't already been said." It's happened, more than once. These days if I have an interesting thought at all, I shut up and hoard it for some later date.

(And thus my fics grow ever more essay-like, to the point of invoking the tl;dr effect. Subdee, now that I think about it this was the problem with the Yukikaze fic. ^^;)

SSBB cover artist has gotten back to me which is more than I deserve. I should start looking for a February artist + writer (I think [livejournal.com profile] fightfair was the next sacrificial lamb to be offered up by her adoring friends, going chronologically? Ahaha. Valentine's Day, bishounen, what's not to love. PLS SEND THEMES. I want to do a May/December thing but it would make more sense for that to be in, well, May).

Re: Mista - he's harder to write than I assumed, actually. *g* Over the course of the fic I had a few instances where it took me a while to figure out what he would say, which never happened with Yuuta (then again I spent a lot more time pondering FdY in general, proportionate to writing it). Part of it is that (as Ka remarked) I give him a distinct voice and personality which is not entirely that of canon but I find it hard to sum up what traits I am assigning him. Conceptually speaking. ^^;

Probably the most important stuff shows up as absences in the text (or rather, are concepts that only appear when Trish is talking). Yesterday doesn't have much solidity, except insofar as it relates to specific people; tomorrow fails to exist; one today is much like another. There's no why to anything. Most people would be sensitive to the staggering power imbalance inherent in putatively being friends and/or lovers with someone like Giorno while simultaneously obeying their orders but the idea occurs to Mista exactly once and is dismissed. Buccellati would say, "I trust him to use his godlike powers for good" or some value judgment of the ilk, whereas Mista I think simply doesn't have the sort of imagination that allows him to hypothesize situations where Giorno crushes him like a bug, so it's just irrelevant to him. ...I could write a lot more but I'm not sure what the point would be, other than trying to set some parameters for myself. XD;

That's right, rub it in! :P ...Yeah, pretty much I have only one story to write per character that catches my interest, because I only have one set of ideas about him or her, unless something later happens in canon to change that. It really is the equivalent of writing essays for me, see. XD

Hey, I wasn't trying to rub anything in! It was just an observation! (But, it is interesting then... because I don't find it hard, for example, to write an essay about any character, whereas people say it's hard to write about some characters, because in an essay you can actually just go "I don't understand character X, he could be like this or like that, what do you think?" )

Although, now that I think about it, it is possible to have more than one essay, if it is in response to a different question, or if someone comes up with another essay about the character that you want to respond to. I guess I'm thinking more of "extended character profile."

I don't think you could write an essay about any character. XD What if it were a character whose role in the story is clear, but you just don't find all that interesting?

I dunno, I'm not suggesting everyone does things my way - most people are perfectly capable of writing multiple fics about their favorite characters. *g*

I could write an essay about them, but I probably wouldn't. Yet, it wouldn't be something that I would find impossible to do. In other words, if their role in the story is clear, I can explain it in about fifty words. XD

Yeah, that's what I had thought. Otherwise people couldn't stay in the same fandoms for years, they would obviously exhaust their ability to write fanfic in several months. But, I suppose this is similar to me vis a vis essays/analysis posts, because after awhile I do run out of things to say about something if a) it is not ongoing, or b) there is no one else in the fandom talking to give me something to bounce off of.
