The next music post, finally
Sep. 21st, 2006 05:50 pmI hear we're supposed to make five
blind_go aftermath posts but I don't trust myself not to slip up and refer to my story by title. *g* I've mentioned it enough, certainly.
Various people have been making noises re the Junior Boys (whose tour isn't stopping in Montreal, bastids, but if they did come I'd just be missing them alongside Ladytron and Trentemoller and THE PET SHOP BOYS and gawdknowswho else):
Junior Boys - More Than Real (9.1MB)
Junior Boys - Bellona (7.8MB)
Junior Boys - Last Exit (9.1MB)
Junior Boys - Double Shadow
From the first and second album respectively (I'll upload "Like a Child" later this evening). The first album is more IDM-y and introspective - I don't know if it's because I was told it was made in some bloke's bedroom in small-town Ontario, but I actually find it hard to get into unless it's miserably grey and Canadian outside and I'm cold or hungover or lacking for sleep or all three. It doesn't seem to 100% suit any other mood. XD Someone on ILM said it dates itself more than one'd expect and this is true as well, but I tend to feel in a positive way, like the first Ladytron album.
The second album seems dancier and... sharper, somehow, but I haven't heard all of it.
Trentemoller - Take Me Into Your Skin (17.7MB): speaking of whom. I'm really tempted to order this album, if only because you could've told me this was anyone but Trentemoller. XD;; M83 with less cheese, say, or Ulrich Schnauss without the twee. It's dark melodic IDM, more or less.
Gui Boratto - Like You (Supermayer Remix) (10.1MB): the person standing next to me at the Ellen Allien & Apparat show actually popped a thingy of amyl nitrite, so fwiw I now know what it smells like (I live my life thinking, one of these days I'll find a way to use that in fic =_=). I mention because the track sounds rather like inhaling something volatile and giddy, only without the wanton brain-cell destruction. Hopefully, anyway. It'd probably slay at 4AM when everyone is tired, as it is I start laughing uncontrollably every time the clockwork tin whistle wind-up toy noises come in.
Kid Alex feat. Kimo Greene - Fame (Milk & Sugar Club Mix) (10.2MB): from a Hed Kandi comp
serendip gave me called Twisted Disco, which also has the Richard X Javine track and the Scissor Sisters Bucci Bag track, so let that serve as the description. *g* Proper house with a twist (of lemon peel, probably).
Tsuji Ayano - Swallowtail Butterfly ~Ai no uta~: not dance shokku. From the "your college roommate skips her 2PM class and sits crosslegged on the bed noodling with her guitar" school of covers. Sounds as if it were recorded through a lapel pin microphone with a handheld tape deck.

Date: 2006-09-21 10:21 pm (UTC)poppers == so so rubbish, unless all you want from a high is a couple of minutes of giggling plus the sense that the whole world has gone sepia.
btw have you seen! http://ilx.wh3rd.net/thread.php?msgid=7308676&showextras=true&showall=true

Date: 2006-09-21 10:51 pm (UTC)...I wonder if I should assume my taste in music is a function of the interior decorating. In parents' defense the house is an art gallery, of sorts.
Also: Magda, rip the vinyl!

Date: 2006-09-22 09:29 am (UTC)I... would not tend to link interior decoration and musical taste in that way. (quite frankly their living rooms mostly just look german? germany-resident people, german lifestyle, german-looking living room, german-sounding music. all the berlin ones have the same white walls, hardwood floors, low plush seats, overabundance of space, general feel of neat-and-clean. the fact that they are 'arty' can explain away the relative messiness of the records. you note the hamburg ones are the most uh individual, by which I mean I love you Lawrence will you be my best friend?) Obv that wooden armchair that looks like a huge pebble is exactly what you would buy if you were the kind of person who makes Ricardo Villalobos' records, and Sven Vaeth's horrible rug and eyesore speakers and mental inlaid-decks thing are so so blindingly Vaeth it's amazing, but. Music performs the function of interior decoration, doesn't it? On a very temporary basis, only for so long as the record's playing (and maybe a little into the silence after), but it can overlay whatever decoration you currently have. and, um, stuff.
Damn that Dave Gahan, always getting in the way. *shakes fist*

Date: 2006-09-22 03:50 pm (UTC)Lawrence's is wonderful (and it's interesting that it should be so immediately sympathetic), Vaeth's makes me laugh and laugh. I thought Villalobos' would have straw effigies of giraffes or something (maybe in the opposite corner...).

Date: 2006-09-23 08:28 am (UTC)Lawrence clearly moved in, put all his stuff down, had an idea, bought a desk, had a few more ideas, and just never got around to having the walls painted. And doesn't even notice anymore? ♥
I don't know why, but Galluzzi's makes me not like him? There's something poseur-y to it, the way he's put the decks in pulpit--position in the room, the fact that they're wire-cage decks like in a techno club and the record collection to the side is in chipboard racks like in a record shop and, I don't know, something 気持ちよくない about it. DJ Hell makes me die of laughter though.
