petronia: (tea or coffee?)
[personal profile] petronia
1) I am trying to decide what theme to set for the April SSBB. Jae suggested a sort of old flames, "second time around" thing, which would actually work with what I'm writing, but I don't know if that's too restrictive. I'd been vaguely thinking that I should do, like, a bondage edition? wingfic? catboys? XD but that wouldn't work with what I'm writing, and once again, too restrictive. I try to make SSBB at least reasonably inclusive. Everyone likes schoolboys but I personally would balk a little at reading fifteen gakuenmono stories in a row, and maybe not everyone likes catboys enough to write them. I don't think I've ever seen an anthology entirely comprised of catboys (that Hoshino Lily manga comes closest), although they must exist. Not to mention I know some people have started theirs already.

Maybe I should make this the issue fr all yr special kinks, and then you can write catboys or elves or amputated transvestite bondage fairies etc. if that is your thing. Not that people don't do exactly as they want already. Or maybe have that for June, and not set a theme at all for April?

Thoughts? Should I poll the comm?

oshi I need a cover artist

2) On the topic of pho soup: the poll results fell quite neatly. Two-fifths of people finish the bowl (out of those, three-fifths pace themselves so that they finish the broth along with everything else), another two-fifths attempt to finish the broth but are generally incapable on account of it being too much, and one-fifth don't drink the broth by itself at all, citing MSG overdose and other factors. I count myself enlightened.

[livejournal.com profile] astrael_nyx, btw, cleared up the fact that pho is pronounced 'feu', as in 'pot au feu'.

3) I have not been posting very much lately. Mostly I've been busy (today for instance I had tea at the Duc de Lorraine with [livejournal.com profile] serendip and [livejournal.com profile] dipping_sauce, and then we walked up to Saint Joseph's Oratory and took pictures), but I have also been desultorily producing content for The Giant Entry. There will be something in it for every discerning reader of this LJ. XD Are we actually supposed to post on the last day of the month, or whenever we feel like it / hit the word limit? Mind you I am going to wait for the 28th anyway, because then I can include my Mile Long Pole fic and slay two wacky fandom challenges with one post.

Speaking of MLP: I have whittled the options down to Yukikaze, Love Mode (preexisting back-burnered ideas), or one of the remaining ficlets onna card. My instinctive feeling is that crossovers shouldn't count, or I would write that Viewfinder/PSoH thing. XD XD I finally figured out some time ago how that one would go, and it pleases me because there is a total lack of drama.

4) Gmail chat is the bestest! Except... except it seems to be mysteriously gone again. :0 I do not understand.

I would humbly offer my unworthy chickenscratchings for a cover some day in the future... though not April as I'm still on my infernal internal medicine rotation and it is draining my SOUL.

Ehhhhhhhhhh. =_=

FWIW I think Jae's suggestion would work well with any sort of setting. D:

June? :D Since you could draw and Meg could write the story which would let me off the hook for an issue o rapturous joy of joys UM I MEAN it would be wonderful if you could at some point. ♥

poisson d'avril? 'second time around' would work, though maybe in June if some folks have already started. I'd offer to do the cover, if you have any idea what you'd like to see on it; otherwise you would find yourself having to write a story about elves. Although I bet [livejournal.com profile] sesame_seed would approve (and aid, and abet). xD

(ps. I vote Yukikaze for MLP!)

I am beating bp over the head with it. XD;;; The general principle being to spread the pain around as much as possible, only I am too chicken to ask anyone but my friends (and whomever offers), so. [livejournal.com profile] ametatsu did offer at one point but she seems really busy now.

Yukikaze: noted. :P

I LIKES CATBOYS. ♥

Not that I have a catboy story or anything. But I do like them so. xD

Kinks would work with what I am (still) writing as I have a bondage kink and what I'm writing involves bondage. Not that the majority of porn I write doesn't involve some light bondage. But. Y'know.

I think I will have catboys for June. XD Or rather... uh... any kind of animal. Bunnyboys or winged boys or... it's all good.

I'll have to come up with a catchy slogan though. When did catchy sloganeering become an essential part of SSBB administration, I am not good at this.

....you realize if this was actually in Japanese it would be something along the lines of 'Anata no itoshii petto ni naritai~! ♥ DOKI DOKI KONEKO RABU♥'.

Which is to say um. I think it's a bad sign when I can think of horrible slogans in Japanese but not in English?

I think that if you highlight the user you want to speak to on your "Quick Contacts" list, you will find a tooltip with a link to initiate a chat with that person! I'm really amazed by all those things you can do with a little bit of Javascript!

If you have an email from someone in your Inbox, putting your mouse over the email, without clicking, will show you the option to Chat if it's available.

Delurking to mention that for the SSBB the "old flame" idea seems to work nicely, since I kept thinking to to myself "If I know my BL chronology correctly, this would be the part where Attractive Third Party of the (not so) Angsty Past makes an appearance and nearly -nearly!- manages to steal one of our heros away! Oh noes!" and old flames fits nicely with that. But then again that probably wouldn't fit most peoples ideas at all, so, so... Um, I really really like catboys.

Haha, I hope I can persuade you and Sakki to team up for the cover at some point! Catboys? For June?

I probably will go with the old flames thing as more people seem to like it than I thought. Hmm. Maybe "Old Flames, New Beginnings"? Then people could do either, or both. :D

I'm more or less clear on what I want to write but it depends on what you want to draw.

The Old Flame idea is a good one - ah, the potential for angst. XD If some authors find it restrictive, perhaps have it as a suggestion in something along the line of Love Triangles/Polygons or such?

I love schoolboys. My personal challenge is to write as many schoolboy cliches as I can for SSBB, though I don't know how much people can take of that. =D

Wingfic and catboys are always good, but I have to say I find "old flames" intriguing.

Incidentally, re: pho, I am going to be in Montreal later this year and would appreciate recommendations of good pho places!

Hmm, I don't know, but there are so many pho places in town! They're like the shish taouk joints. Everywhere!

But one of my favourite pho places (which I love b/c they don't just serve pho) is in the Cote-des-Neiges neighborhood, right on the corner of Cote-des-Neiges and Cote-Ste-Catherine. It's called "Pho Lien". One of the aside dishes they have, and no one else has, are the fried rice cakes.

Putting in my vote for "old flames" -- though I actually prefer "second chances", because it's much more flexible as a theme.
