petroniaI kind of wish I were at all able to read Tolkien fanfiction,** because most of the Hobbit meta/reviews/etc. strike me as wrongheaded and it's ticking me off. :/

This is a decade-long recurrent complaint, since Jackson started making his movies, and if we've known each other online that long you're probably bored of me kvetching about this. IIRC my 2001 solution was to read lotrips but I was aware even at the time that what I really wanted was gen fic. But Sabina, you say, what the hell is gen lotrips? Wouldn't that be, like, text transcriptions of fake Weta production video diaries?

XD; I think with Tolkien, people either pastiche Tolkien, or are unable to rise to the level of Tolkien pastiche, whereas I suspect what's needed is writing as well as Tolkien but not sounding like him. And that's before one gets into all the opportunities for nitpicking #nerdrage.
