I have been really bad with answering comments this past week or so. =_= Apologies. I wish I could claim it was because I was writing but in reality I've been stuck on one scene for the entire week. The Chinese expression is 钻牛角尖 - "climbing inside the bull's horn-tip". It best describes the mental trap that occurs when an obsessive-compulsive approach to problem-solving meets a failure of lateral thinking: for instance when one becomes determined to solve some casual math puzzle to the point of neglecting real productive work for hours, or when one adopts a brute-force method to complete a task and fails to realise there is an easier, more efficient way, because one is too fixated on toughing it out. More generally, it's losing sight of the forest for the trees. You are funneled into a point, and are left with nothing to do but bump your skull against said point until you wear a hole in it - or it wears a hole in you.

Work has also been picking up. But at least it's interesting work. ^^;

Black Opal: actually it turns out I really like this. ^^ It's very subtle and has an ozone-y, mineral feel that reminds me of nothing so much as wet stone - like condensation on the walls of a grotto. There is also vanilla, and the first couple of times I opened the imp I got a whiff of coconut, but that seems to be gone now.

There's something breezy and comforting about this scent. I often dab it on before I go to bed. XD I like the way it lingers in my hair.

I realised I forgot to tag people for the seven songs meme. So - [livejournal.com profile] vonbrigthi, [livejournal.com profile] orochinemo, [livejournal.com profile] serendip (if you haven't been tagged yet and are not actively trying to avoid it XD), [livejournal.com profile] pere_chan, [livejournal.com profile] fantabulous, [livejournal.com profile] one_if_by_land, [livejournal.com profile] insaneneko.

Isn't everyone behind replying to comments half the time?

What exactly is the seven songs meme? Seven songs you are currently listening to? Seven songs you like?

Seven songs you are currently into / really enjoying right now (it's just to list them actually but most people upload XD).

I was going to wait to see other people's commenting, before adding my grain of salt. Mostly, b/c I thought there'd be multiple commenting of the "me too, me too" style... Just 'cuz I want to say "me too". I don't know what serves to illustrate it best when two people get together and fall into this mental trap than the time we tried fixing your HD (not to mention your cherry on the sundae).

I think it is for me one source of relative un-productiveness *at work* (it doesn't have such real-life-altering consequences if one limits this trait to creation :D). It does insure that someone in this humanity cares about details. Just like the overly-caring mums trait is a benefit, or sine qua non condition of humanity (read that news snippet on Ashkenazi moms??).

(I am also lodging a protest to the Petronia-blog Tagging Dept for never being tagged. >:O)
