Batch o' commentary for today
Jan. 5th, 2006 08:06 pm1) Cathy's anon hate meme! Note that the second page is vastly more entertaining than the first. XD
2) Quick fic recs!
Welcome Home [Monster]
by
ametatsu. Johan and Nina, series ending spoilers (I think). Not that I've gone far looking, but good Monster fic really seems to be nigh-nonexistent. Granted the canon 1) explores the themes it sets out to explore in a satisfactory manner, and 2) hardly lends itself to shipping.
Initiation [XXXHolic]
by
evherie. This is what the Donuts ship is all about. XD "You want me to die a virgin." "And exactly how would that benefit me?"
Like Water, Like Wind [Lawrence of Arabia]
by
astolat for Yuletide. I just now ran across this, and am amused because it is a gift for a longtime AMLA-er. XD The prose - not to mention the psychology - is not nearly as jarring as I usually find with LoA fics, apart from the semicolons. (Warriors don't think in semicolons. Y/N?)
Distant [Petshop of Horrors]
by
jmtorres, also for Yuletide. WAFFy, funny, characterisation on the ball. There should be a greater proportion of good PSoH fic now that the manga is officially translated in its entirety - I hope.
bravecows's Bleach PostSecrets, here here and here, from way back in August. I gather this was something going 'round in fandoms not mine; an anime-centric revival would be neat, I'd even start it if my graphic design skillz haven't gone the way of the dodo. ^^;
3) I trust we have all seen
emlan's Bleach dogs by now (she's drawn more since I last checked :D). Some are more breed-apparent than others; Byakuya is a Belgian sheepdog with white spots.
This is what Next Day Pets has to say about Belgian sheepdogs:
Overview: This is an active, extremely loyal dog. He's happiest with an owner who can give him plenty of jobs to do (like playing games and obedience training). The Belgian Sheepdog gets along with gentle children and does best in country or suburban living with lots of exercise. He is protective of his family.
Character: The Belgian Shepherd is energetic, lively and eager to work.
Temperament: This breed gets along well with other pets especially if socialized early. It is shy around strangers, but get along well with children.
Care: Excessive brushing or combing can damage the undercoat. Light combing is only necessary during shedding.
Training: Training should be gentle, but determined. Hitting or yelling at the animal will only have an adverse effect.
Activity: The Belgian Shepherd needs a sufficient amount of outdoor exercise.
In general, Next Day Pets works about as well as your average Chinese horoscope, as long as you can get the breed right.
4) Circumstantial evidence Tiga does, in fact, lurk on ILX:
* album titled "Sexor"
* event series titled "I Love Neon"
5) (Answering people re last Bleach speculation post instead of commenting back directly) Thanks for pointing out that Quincys intake spiritual energy from the environment, I'd forgotten that distinction. Spiritrons, eh. XD Although come to think of it, that provides an obvious pointer re possible methods of recovering Ishida's powers. Since he burnt out his ability to draw spiritual energy from without, he has to learn how to generate it from within! But wouldn't that make him indistinguishable from a shinigami? OH NOES ANGST
Whew, I have been writing this entry all day. XD

Date: 2006-01-06 04:57 pm (UTC)I do intend to translate more Mirage of Blaze - eventually - but I lent my books and am waiting to get them back, and what's more have placed the series on hiatus for six months now, more or less because when I'm reading it I get sucked into it 110% and I wanted to give my other fandoms some love. XD
Nice to meet you!
