Ceci n'est pas un food post
Nov. 21st, 2005 02:20 pmIt is merely the idea of a food post, esquissée... I found a recipe for Watanuki's Valentine Day chocolate cake. I couldn't make sense of the thing as it was drawn in the XXXHolic manga - looked more like a tiny pudding than a cake to me, never saw anything like one in real life - but there it was in the recipes section of the SAQ Holidays flyer, in glossy colour! Gave me a turn. XD
I also keep forgetting to make that Moroccan cold salad post...
Watched some anime, now that I have my computer back. I'm up to episode 3 of Mushishi and episode 5 of Blood+. I associate Mushishi with
tsutanai's FST way back in the day, which was the first I heard of it. I think in a way it's what I wanted Kousetsu Hyaku Monogatari to be - strange but contemplative, rather than setting all one's nerves on edge. (Then again I watched the first few eps of KHM on a broken TV that would shift between purple and green without notice. Also, good hash - or so I'm told. If you've seen the series you can probably imagine the experience that made for.) The verdant palette is soothing to my abused eyes. XD
Saw the original Blood when it played Fantasia umpteen years ago (okay, in 2000). Liked it then but started downloading the TV series largely because Tania caught a couple of eps at Concordia and claimed it was good, and if Tania says a series that is not known to contain teh ghei is good then it must be. XD I'm glad I watched two hours of it at a go. The plot is compelling - as with the original this is largely due to the American military in Okinawa angle - but half the characters make me wrinkle my nose in mild disapproval or laughter. I mean, Saya ends up with a group that includes her two adoptive brothers(!), a sexy lady scientist and a stone-faced ubergoth vampire who fights with a cello case. Oh, and David Bowie. Who has n1nj4 sk1llz. And what on EARTH is UP with Suwabe's character SERIOUSLY is he supposed to be FRENCH OR SOMETHING?
Suwabe's character: *ponces about* *is annoying* *eats candy* *is annoying with the candy wrapper*
American military guys in Okinawa: ........................................
I'm going to keep watching it for sure (I like Saya and - I really like George, so I want to know what happens at least), but I'll probably be mocking it periodically. :D
