Version 1.0 subject to change for certain, but posted because knowing me I'd fiddle the tracklistings into airless tastefulness if allowed, which would negate the point entirely... The thing about these is that they're not "DJ mixes". There is no universe however alternate in my conception where Schuldich is a DJ. It's a conundrum because Schu is and always has been the most insistent/persistent of my characters when it comes to "claiming" music, but when I started making this mix I discussed the concept with
helvetius and we more or less agreed that Schuldich is a passivist with no defined taste who listens with half an ear to whatever's playing and trigger-surfs radio stations to annoy. XD Schuldich would never engage in making playlists. He's probably never been in a nightclub and known the name of the DJ, unless he learnt it in the course of "making friends" with said DJ in order to get into the DJ's pill stash.
It's kind of hard to work a mix with that sort of musical profile. Eventually I ended up with a string of radio pop songs warped into a facsimile of what a nightclub with Schuldich in it might sound like, anonymous DJ and all. It's sonically consistent though I don't know if it's "likeable". There's a whole lotta German crap, which I'm sure is an astonishing development.
In comparison the Youji mix more or less made itself out of the blue, or rather out of the schtuff I was listening to that didn't fit on the other one. (The naming isn't really a lazy appeal to convention. While I throw about genre classifications, in the privacy of my own brain I remember and categorize dance/electronica tracks using metaphors of colour and shape: so and so is purple squares while such and such is grey drybrush strokes. The Schuldich mix "sounds" black/violet/gunmetal grey/electric blue/silver. The Youji mix is more like lilac/aqua/pale gold/dawn pink/cream.) Youji... has no taste either. XD He might know the name of the DJ but on a list of reasons why he's going out for the night and where it would rank near the bottom. Which is just as well, because if these were supposed to represent anything concrete Schuldich would be at an electro house night and Youji would be at a progressive breaks night [1] and never the twain shall meet, thus negating the approximately 6,012,944 fanfics in which they run into each other in the alley behind the club and end up having sex out of well- or poorly-defined angst and general sluttishness (85% of which I have read). If you have ever written anything resembling the previous, congratulations, these mixes are dedicated to YOU.
[1] By which I mean there are all of two tracks on the mix that are prog breaks, but they're awesome. To be honest I'd appreciate opinions because I have no idea how White Mix sounds to someone who hasn't overplayed all but three of the songs; I'm aware that it shatters genre rules in a horrible awful no-good way. XD;;

Date: 2005-11-16 06:58 am (UTC)OMG I DO THE SAME THING. Not just with dance music though. Pretty much all music. Though some songs, rather than being an abstract picture or color or shape, are scenes, like from a movie. Only, usually the movie is only in my head.
