More fannishly
Nov. 3rd, 2005 08:41 pmI read a little more TRC last night. I'm now at the beginning of volume 6. You cannot imagine how much I want to be caught up on this series already. I don't... I don't even want to read it, per se. I just want to be caught up. I want to know what happens.
I also have the first two episodes of the Paradise Kiss anime sitting on the hard drive at home. There's just no time. I'm cooking again with Justin tonight and have to decide what we're going to make, and it can't take three hours because I have to wine and dine and be home by ten. Argh! I have to keep reminding myself that I'm not seventeen anymore for cripes' sake and this is not about me or my computer privileges.
A mention of ParaKiss segues neatly into: Franz Ferdinand Cover Air on New Single (the Fork by way of
two_if_by_sea). Of course it's "Sexy Boy". Why not just cover "I Will Survive"? You don't have to ease us into it, guys! We get it, now put us out of our misery!
For the life of me I cannot imagine what this will sound like. Guess I'll find out in another month.

O, a question that may actually be of some import now. Who wants to be on the original fiction filter?

I'm considering posting more fic reviews - not recs as the word is commonly understood, but more like the singles/album reviews on an online music mag where sometimes they're talking about the CD at hand and sometimes they use the CD at hand as a springboard for talking about the wart on the reviewer's big toe and you finish reading the page with no idea of what the music actually sounds like. If you see what I mean. ^^;
The Girl Who Knew The River
by
athousandwinds, for
31_days. Spirited Away, Haku/Chihiro. More painting! I think maybe this is one of my kinks, no doubt due to upbringing. Which in and of itself is funny, because a) my dad hasn't had to work from live human models in years and b) there is no activity on God's green earth more boring than modeling. As for the fic I reckon I would like it better if it were 10,000+ words like "The Spell". XD
Therapy

sunflower1343. Viewfinder AU, oh yes. Occasionally (i.e. when the author manages to pull it off) I like to read wave-the-magic-wand-once fics. The rule is this: you get to wave the magic wand once, usually right at the beginning, and that is your allotment of ridiculous premises and dei ex machina for the duration of the story, no matter how long. Hanako drinks the love potion, Mikey wakes up a girl, Harry gets kicked out of Hogwarts for having gay sex. The rest must follow logically. You cannot wave the wand twice or the entire house of believability cards comes crashing down. The premise of this fic is that the main characters in Viewfinder are sent to court-appointed therapy. This is of course ridiculous for a host of reasons including but not limited to the fact that it negates the point of what makes the series tick/interesting. But the characterisations ring very true, extrapolations included, and the story takes a number of unexpected (well, by me) turns before hitting the cheese at 100mph. I wrote on
marej's post that it was a bit like reading Robertson Davies' The Manticore, i.e. "...Dear saints was I just held in suspense for hours by a transcript of someone else's talking cure?"
Actually I'd say "Therapy" wasn't entirely successful as a wave-the-wand-once fic; I think she goes for a second wave near the end. XD But that's because she tries to make something happen in her story that I'm not convinced anyone could plausibly pull off, not even Yamane Ayano herself. Which doesn't mean that they shouldn't try.

Date: 2005-11-03 06:35 pm (UTC)A Franz track ought to be used as a ParaKiss insert song, since the show mangled the ending theme so that it is too cut-off and busy to be fun. The show itself is enjoyable but seems like its budget is very low? Some people are bithing about the character designs as well, but I don't see the reason. I kinda want to hear your two cents once you watch.
Read the last five chapters of TRC. I'm sure nothing would have happened in-between. CLAMP must be getting bored with this series.

Date: 2005-11-04 04:01 pm (UTC)I thought I'd be reading TRC purely for the cameos but it's actually quite good, in a really-truly-for-12-year-olds sort of way. Wonder what it means that CLAMP essentially did "The Brothers Grimm" before Terry Gilliam.

Date: 2005-11-05 01:06 am (UTC)I should be mowed down for ordering a writer about, but Ayano-sensei needs to hurry up and dish out more Viewfinder. Fans are succumbing to the Rowling Gaping-Hole-In-Canon-Which-Must-Be-Filled-With-Crack Syndrome.
Also, if I'm not on your origfic filter color me begging to be added. I'm quite addicted to your writing. :)

Date: 2005-11-17 04:38 am (UTC)Takaba would sleep safely in the weeks to come, unaware that he was the reason the Tokyo underworld was feeling the unleashed wrath of his demon lover.
XDXDXD. Fun story,at least until the chapter where "Fei" is used instead of"Feilong." After that I wasn't sure what I was reading anymore, it was like reading Evil Clone fanfic.
