Afghanis-tan, or the greatest webcomic ever at this moment. Mikhail, I am disappointed that I did not see this on your blog first! Unless you blogged about it last year or something.

(Click the "Web-Comic" link at top, then the "Afghanis-tan" banner on the sidebar, and then where it says 第01話 etc. Of course It's not nearly as good if you can't read the Japanese - especially since the artist is obviously bent on education rather than taking the piss what with the mini history lessons at the bottom of each 4-panel - but um, you owe it to yourself to look at the pictures until Osama bin Laden shows up. You'll know him when you see him.)

On Halloween I ended up watching Brazil with Cedric at Du Parc Cinema. Boy, did that ever bring the Special! I think it's the best movie I've watched since Harold & Kumar Go To White Castle, though a comparison can hardly be drawn. Actually it's funny because Ced had told me about 5,982 times during the course of the week that we were going to see this movie called Brazil and it was directed by Terry Gilliam (which I knew) but I kept forgetting... It's probably not a good sign when a 1980s dystopian SF film feels entirely topical. I was going to write that it was the stuff of my nightmares blown up onscreen with astonishing pinpoint precision but that's pretty much what Ced blogged as well. I actually was reluctant to fall asleep that night because I could feel it waiting for me.

(Though AFAIK I didn't actually dream about it, whereas I dreamt about Harold & Kumar. I was below the deck of a ship with Neil Patrick Harris and he gave me a giant bowl of powdered cocaine - like one of those bowls they serve you Asian noodle soup in - and told me to hide it. I dashed into the ladies' washroom but had no idea what to do with the stuff. It was impossible to just leave because a draft would blow it everywhere. Eventually I dumped it into brown paper and wrapped it up and stuck the packet above the radiator.

I dream anxiety dreams about drugs a lot. They seem to stand for "valuable but illegal and difficult to carry/hide/sell". It's like the opposite of dreaming you're at a giant department store sale without enough money.

Recently my REM cycles have corresponded with my morning schedule in such a way that I nearly always remember my dreams when I wake up. The settings are as detailed and interesting as ever. My subconscious is the best interior designer I know.)

But right, I am probably the last person to see Brazil (it came out in 1985) but if you haven't track down the director's cut. If only for the sake of the coolest steampunk computer terminal design ever. :D

He does? o.o Somehow I must have missed him. *looks back through*

Who *is* the bishie then? And who's the robot?

He's the cat. Hmm, are there any bishies? I didn't read real closely and thought they were all supposed to be girls.

THE CAT?! D:

(As for the bishie there was some bishounen beauty the girls were imagining collectively.)

The robot is the TALIBAN. XDDD I too would love to know who the bishie was. Something brain-breaking, I don't doubt.

I'm guessing that the bishounen is Ahmed Shah Masoud, leader of the Northern Alliance, colloquially known as Masu-sama.

*ded*

Is it wrong to want an Osama-nyanko icon? Oh my god.

Thanks also for vrs recent musics. If I ever assimilate a working vocabulary of contemporary subgenres it will be your doing.

I have seen *parts* of Brazil, but it's been on my short list of 'must-see sf flicks' for a good long while now.

Brazil freaked me out (in a good way!); I really wish I watched it with someone rather than seeing it alone, though.
