This is a Neil Jordan movie about Cillian Murphy crossdressing?

***

Jacques Lu Cont has naturally high levels of stephenkingamine.

***

Dammit, I've forgotten much more about Rimbaud than what I know now.

Looks like it:

I quote:

Murphy's most challenging role to date is his latest in Neil Jordan's "Breakfast on Pluto," being shown at the Toronto festival. The film, based on the novel by Patrick McCabe, tells the picaresque adventures of a youth abandoned at birth who is searching for his mother and turns to transvestism during the journey.

While its themes of transvestism and political violence in Ireland parallel those Jordan dealt with in "The Crying Game," this time, the director said, the transvestism is not sexual but about one person "through disguise finding a more coherent version of himself. It's about one person constructing a character for themselves that allows them to survive."

Murphy said he wanted the character to be "feminine" and not "effeminate": "Feminine is something you have naturally, and effeminate is an affectation."

Iffen you're interested, and haven't read already, Graham Robb wrote an amazing Rimbaud biography (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/039332267X/qid=1130539790/sr=8-7/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i7_xgl14/702-4548994-7999217). As did Charles Nicholl, but his (http://www.amazon.ca/exec/obidos/ASIN/0099767716/qid=1130539836/sr=1-1/ref=sr_1_0_1/702-4548994-7999217) concentrates on Rimbaud's post-Paris and, naturally, post-poetry years. Both are deftly researched and endlessly entertaining, though in very different ways.

Am definitely interested in the bios. The other question would be, how much research am I willing to do for the specific purpose of a plotless 1000-word Prince of Tennis fic I intend to beat into submission next week. XD

um. I suppose that's the question only your OCDemons can answer. On the other hand, how much Rimbaud related research can you possibly need for a PoT fic? *g*

It really depends on how much little insight I can get away with. XD

Hi!

It's Cynthia. Remember, we met at the screening about two or three weeks ago? I sent you an email, to your Gmail account, but I guess you haven't checked your email lately. Anyhow, do you think you'll be coming to the next screening on the 12th of November? Let me know. ^_^ Also, do you have AIM? If so, what's your nick? Mine is kuramaxhiei.

Hi~ I don't know if I'll be coming, actually, I usually decide last-minute based on how busy I am / what's playing / whether anyone else I know is there. ^^; And no, don't have AIM. But you can always reach me through here.

Well... Last week was the Halloween special, so you won't have to worry about what'll be showing for the next screening, since we're thankfully back to normal after that. Well, I guess this last screening had a few saving graces, like the gayer-than-gay Yami no Matsuei, interesting but confusing Mirage of Blaze, and strangely interesting Puppet Master Sakon: Two-Faced Oni. I didn't stick around for the last three shows though. The first of those promised to be nothing but fanservice from what I could see... naked girl in the first shot, bouncing boobs, panty shots, clothes falling apart in the street... and all in the first five minutes too. So yeah... obviously, I'm not into hentai or anything of the sort, so I didn't stick around for that.

The next screening is November 12th, I hope you can make it, cauz I know I'll be coming. ^_^ I certainly can't wait to see more of Monster. Btw, you could download AIM, you know. It's free. ^_^

Cynthia

P.S.: Do you have a cellphone?

I was browsing my friends' friends, and realized that, ho my gawd, you're the one that wrote that brilliant Getbackers story, "Una musica brutal." Brainasplody now. Mind if I friend you?

Yey! Agh, you just can't imagine the confused state of breathless awe, covetous envy and brain melting warm fuzzies that fic put me in.

And we apparently have several friends in common! Not that surprising, given they're from the getbackers community, but... xD
