I am going nuts
Jul. 29th, 2005 10:53 pmI have been writing for
31_days. As aforementioned it is all going to be Mirage of Blaze, although length, mood and style vary greatly. I keep writing truncated drabbles because I don't have time to really think things over. Going coucou and hitting the point where metaphorically linking the Retsumyousei and Yuzuru by way of Koubou Daishi (seeing that Yuzuru is, well, Maitreya basically) seems like the most hilarious idea ever. Although I am 75% sure at this point that it'll be done in canon. Kuwabara babbles in the afterword to 21 no less that there's higanbana/manjushage all over the place in Shikoku and she thinks of it as "her" flower since it blooms around her birthday, and anyhow it's red like all the other red things she likes. Blood... wine... roses... rubies... Takaya's left eye... つまり。I can only laugh. I've also been attempting to purchase an mp3 player but that's turning into a whole 'nother drama.
...In other news, have some music.
Nujabes + Fat Jon - Aruarian Dance
kazami - YOU
From various Samurai Champloo OSTs. Warm and dreamy.
UA - Summer Melancholic: theme of this post as well as the title of the song. Actually it sounds like it could come from a Samurai Champloo soundtrack as well, with the sleepy, wandering dub bassline.
Taima - Remaining For You: Taima is a Quebec duo that does mellow acoustic folk in French, English and Inuktitut. To me it sounds like fleeting northern summer, the ice breaking apart and the land misting over with green. I'm debating going to see them at the Spectrum on August 2nd.
pornkings tagged me with a meme: Ask me my top five of anything.
Tin asked me my top five items of clothing and the top five concerts I attended. I find I cannot really order them apart from selecting five though. XD
Top Five Items of Clothing
1) Black felt beret, the one with the white dotted line + scissors mark. Golitzinsky says it gives him the urge to cut my head open.
2) Dusty-pink corduroy blazer. The dark blue one also goes with everything, but the pizzazz is in the pink.
3) Black-and-brown fitted zip-up ankle boots with round buckles (my "Franz Ferdinand" boots).
4) Bright orange and brown-paisley striped sari skirt. There is also the one I'm wearing now, which is patterned in pale and dark green-on-green circles. I'm on a colour kick.
5) Dark green tie-dyed long sleeved t-shirt. Certain items of clothing work magic. I can't figure out what it is about the cut of this one but I lose ten pounds when I put it on. XD
Top Five Concerts
1) Bebel Gilberto @ Spectrum, 20/08/04
2) Franz Ferdinand @ Metropolis, 04/10/04 OR Pixies @ CEPSUM, 27/11/04 - can't decide XD
3) Kings of Convenience @ El Salon, 21/02/05
4) Amp Fiddler @ Stella Artois Jazz Festival Stage, 01/07/05 - I didn't talk about this one. Deep Detroit soul/funk courtesy of this dude in a 'fro and a worn denim vest, his band and a variety of little red keyboards. I was blown away. He had an amazing voice and stage presence; it was the best of the free outdoor concerts by far. Picture all these kids, backpackers, Japanese tourists and rasta dudes, dancing and singing in a parking lot in the July night.
5) Four Tet/Akufen @ Club Soda, 08/07/05 - didn't talk about this one either. This was more one of those perfect nights out on the town, starting with a posh Japanese dinner with Justin and ending with a joint at a house party in the anime-and-record-filled Saint Arthur Street studio apartment of a guy I'd never met before, at 4AM. Four Tet came on with video projections, looking like a curly-haired young knight in a Pre-Raphaelite painting, and was surprisingly dancey. Nothing like Akufen though, that was mad. People danced like they physically could not stop. It was basically a warehouse party - there was this wonderful cool breeze over the dancefloor that we all thought meant there was a door open somewhere and it was raining outside, but outside turned out to be stuffy and hot.

I don't think about "fixing" stories. :D;; Only the really boring obvious ideas occur, as for instance the fact that it was all unlucky circumstance in the first place and if you reverse any part of that, well, nothing much would've happened. I think the interest is more in how the story would've changed afterward.

Date: 2005-07-29 06:52 pm (UTC)Motoni Modoru, Prince of Monster
Yamano Ayane, Viewfinder vol.2 (the only one I own. It has the Feilong backstory and one of the yomikiri about the boys who discover their dads are having an affair that I quite like XD)
Soh Aoki, Fancy Love
...I dunno. I'm petering out. I suppose we can say Love Mode and Sex Pistols. But I don't own either - should buy them - whereas I do buy Tsurugi Kai's Black Knight and random Hoshino Lily and Nekota Yonezou and (more) Motoni Modoru. So.

Date: 2005-07-29 06:51 pm (UTC)So... (I guess this is kind of cheating to phrase it this way) but let's go with your top five least favorite songs. To see if there's any pyrite in there.

Date: 2005-07-29 07:22 pm (UTC)Five for Fighting, "Superman". This popped to mind immediately. I mean, I really loathe this song. XD I hate pretty much everything that you can describe with the words "whiny", "white boy" and "rock ballad" simultaneously, but this song actually contains the lyrics "It's not easy to be me." Like dude, if I were not a "genteel" "Asian girl" I would kick you in the nuts out of principle.
3 Doors Down, "Kryptonite". I don't hate all songs that mention Superman, just these two.
Madonna, "Like a Prayer". Or any of the covers thereof - it's the tune that annoys me, and it sticks like glue.
...I'll tell you the other two when I come up with them. XD

Date: 2005-07-29 08:56 pm (UTC)2) Tania's flavoured Russian black tea the way she brews it, i.e. like drip coffee. I'm actually most fond of the "creamy" flavours (toffee, strawberry and cream, pina colada etc.) but recently she gave me this stuff that's supposedly "Caribbean sunset". What it overwhelmingly smells and tastes like to me is lychee. XD
3) My dad bought some loose leaf green tea on his last trip to China - I don't remember the exact name, can check when I get home - it's vacuum-packed in single-pot units. Best green tea I've ever tasted. Brewed in an earthernware pot and cooled, it's light and sweet like heavenly elixir.
4) Indonesian jasmine tea. I can't get hold of this stuff. A friend of a family friend gave me a box of tea bags once, that was it. It's nothing like Chinese jasmine tea. Chinese jasmine tea is airy and fresh; Indonesian jasmine tea has a heavier, musky scent like incense, or an old house with cedarwood furniture. It's also not really a green tea either, more like oolong.
5) Barley tea. ^^
I'm also quite fond of Earl Grey (especially lavender Earl Grey), and well, I could keep going. XD

Date: 2005-08-03 05:22 pm (UTC)In no particular order:
Peonies
Lilac
Fleur de vigne (grapevine blossom)
Osmanthus
Apple blossom
Runners-up: lime tree blossom, jasmine, datura, various lilies
...I like fragrant flowers. In fact I tend to dislike flowering shrubs that are showy but entirely odourless, like snowball viburnum and hydrangea, because I feel irrationally like they're cheating me. ^^;

Date: 2005-08-03 04:59 pm (UTC)I'd probably go hungry before I'd resort to canned tomato soup or Cheez Whiz, though. And I don't really like most nuts, regular potato chips, cheese puffs and so forth. And Nutella and sweet sodas. And although I don't dislike baked goods like cookies or muffins or cupcakes, I avoid them whenever there are other choices available, because I have no enthusiasm for them.
