petronia: (music)

I finally realised why I have such an irrational fondness for Nobunaga in Mirage of Blaze - he's a Miike Takashi character. Mwaha!

In other news, Tania gave me samples of 6-7 flavours of Russian tea and a bunch of old vinyl (including 10cc, Bowie's Stage 2-record live set and the first Dire Straits album that for some reason I cannot stop listening to - does that ruin my cred somehow? But it's so good). And scanlations. SCOREZ XD

I know I haven't posted any mp3s for a million years - okay, for two weeks. I think I burnt out on new music after the Jazz Fest and didn't really listen to much of anything for a while, apart from stuff uploaded by my immediate flist and pop albums from [livejournal.com profile] _uta I'd been eyeing. Oh, and the Pet Shop Boys. *g* I'm fiddling with a ficpod, should be up soon. But here's a couple of other songs in the meantime.

Feist - Amourissima: Canada-only track apparently. I suppose because part of the lyrics are in French. It has the sound of a ballad from before guitars (acoustic or electric) usurped the throne of pop music: piano and muted woodwinds and vocals like a girl in a sepia-toned photograph.

Rachid Taha - Rock El Casbah: okay, so I finally got this off an mp3 blog a few weeks ago. ^^; For those of you just joining us, this is Rachid Taha's smokin' cover of the Clash's "Rock the Casbah" in Arabic. ...The end.

Cat Stevens - Father and Son: I sort of wish they'd used this as the ending theme to "Zero Day". Like all Cat Stevens songs it says a lot with a few simple words, and every one of them will still apply a hundred years from now.

Many thanks for the Feist track. I've been listening to "Let It Die" these past few days, so the song was a lovely treat. ♥

oh my god [livejournal.com profile] _uta is going to give either me or my computer a coronary with all the downloading excitement, why do you just slip these things in all subtle-like?

Sadly I have a very strong resentment to 'father and son' fostered by the time Boyzone released it as a single it and you could not escape it on the radio. But I'll comment when I've listened to the other two. ^^

(Incidental head-up: am definitely for Europe the last two weeks of September, so was thinking of popping over to London for a couple of days casual-like. :D)

I adore Cat Stevens. Thank you so much for sharing this! *hugs*

(BTW. I've never heard of Rachid Taha, but that Rock El Casbah piece sounds pretty interesting. What type of music is it..?)

Rai, I guess. Arabic rock? I don't know if you know the original - it's sort of dubby punk. The cover is not actually all that different.
