Think I'm going to need an extension for the Heist FST. That is, I could post it now, but instinct's telling me to wait. I can't sit on it for months waiting for inspiration to strike like with my fics, though; in that respect the timed challenges on [livejournal.com profile] fst are a much-needed tonic. ^^;

Been considering remixes for April. I suspect most people's impetus in remix month is to redo a mix they found less than inspiring for a favoured series/pairing/topic - disregard it entirely, start anew. Mine isn't, though. All the FSTs I want to remix are ones I liked. Usually there's overlap, or I just want to tag my own songcalls onto the end, or rearrange the order or something. Sabina's Extended Vox Mix rather than, I dunno, Sabina's Radical Reconstruction Glitch Edit. XD But it makes me feel rather as if I should ask the original FSTer's permission.

Some music:

Apparat - Komponent (Video Edit)
Apparat - Komponent (Telefon Tel Aviv Remix)

With an artist/title like that you expect minimal German techno, and... you wouldn't be wrong. XD Apparat is this dude named Sascha Ring who runs the Shitkatapult label with T.Raumschmiere and makes IDM; "Komponent" is off his latest EP, and AFAIK the most pop song-like object he's ever produced. Upon which Telefon Tel Aviv runs with the tendency, remixing it to nigh-Postal-Service levels of pop-dom. It's more with the sweeping melancholic soundscape, though (the Postal Service is too perky for me, I like my IDMindiepop to sound like the product of a robot programmed to experience mono no aware). You'd like it if you liked that Styrofoam song with Ben Gibbard on.

Chromeo - Needy Girl

The best band I've discovered through [livejournal.com profile] audiography so far. (Ironically they are one Montreal Jew and one Montreal Arab hip-hop producers who have worked with Dubmatique and Bran Van 3000 and are signed to Tiga's Turbo Records, i.e. good grief I should really have heard of them before now. >_>) Today I told someone this track was "retro-electro-funk". Then I revised myself and said "Or you could just call it disco."

Mylo - Destroy Rock & Roll

Otherwise known as the "Eighties h0s will burn in Hell!!!" song. If you haven't heard this once, it's time to download. It's a drums-and-guitar-riff-looping electro-house track over which Mylo samples the speech of a Christian preacher consigning what seems to be the entirety of 1984's Billboard Top 100 to hellfire and brimstone. (You know it's 1984 because not even the Band Aid Christmas single escapes the sacred fire.) The more 80s acts you recognize the funnier it is, because you sit there thinking, "Okay, I grok that Apollonia 6 is going to Hell, but the Alan Parsons Project? Never mind Hell, Heaven would reject the Alan Parsons Project for being MOR!" Also, the dude can't pronounce Cyndi Lauper or David Bowie.

Basically novelty dance music, but weirdly addictive.
