Gundam Seed 16-25
Mar. 1st, 2005 08:10 pmOkay, so clearly they have found:
1) the pink hair gene
2) the crazed bishounen killer gene
3) the "extreme programming" gene
4) the gene that causes you to have sexual tension with hot underdressed enemy chicks when you crash-land on a desert island (aka the "James Bond" gene)
...EUGENICS FOR AN ANIME FUTURE!
Seriously, my only logical extrapolation is that there should be highly nasty, pseudo-Aryanist you-are-your-genetic-history shiz going down within the population on both the Natural and the Coordinator sides, and... well, there's Blue Cosmos, anyway. All the terror/resistance groups in this series sound as if they come with a paper umbrella and a chunk of pineapple on a stick.
Actually, they're only hinting at it with Siegel Clyne's comments on regulated marriage, but codified social engineering is the Coordinators' best shot at long-term viability - i.e. they'd have to turn into Bujold's Cetaganda. And leaning back for the long-term view, eventually they'll win anyway. :P Militarily, or as a fait accompli from within Solar society, or just grab more of that wide-open galactic territory than the monkeys can manage with their pitiful intellect etc., given that space exploration is part of their philosophical charter. Patrick Zala must see himself as merely hastening historical inevitability. Either that or he's nutso from the death of his wife; I've really got to remember that this is Gundam and not, like, hard SF. XD
Tania says she found this official art of Kira and Flay and Cagalli and Lacus and Athrun all dolled up in wedding bride/groom regalia, except you couldn't tell who was marrying whom. Regulate that, PLANT Supreme Council!
Seriously, it's a soap opera. It... it just is. And it's way more about the m/f than m/m possibilities. All the female underwear! And they seem intent on putting the 50-odd episodes to good use by giving every attractive character of both genders a gratuitious shower scene.
Random comments:
1) Captain Ramius and Commander La Flaga are flirting. I'm as obtuse about this in my TV watching as I am in real life, but j0 it is obvious now.
2) Speaking of Mu La Flaga, he's a smug bastard but you can't really hate him because he's good, i.e. perfect casting. I mean, in a certain sense anyone with the right range could play Aya or Zechs, but you need Koyasu to pirouette on the smug+charm=smarm divide like that. Also, the script smacks him down whenever he gets too full of himself. Also, his role in the dynamic is to be smugly knowing, just like Natarle's role is to be the bad cop.
3) Andy Waltfeld has forgotten more about coffee than you will ever know. In fact I had to check up his name, because I just call him "Andy the Coffee Dude". (And not, like, "Desert Tiger", because pffftHAHAHAHAHA. Although he racked up serious points for essentially making his girlfriend be his fatima.)
4) My unscientific viewer survey shows that, no seriously, men do find Flay hot. So now you know.
...Gah, they're all younger than I expected them to be. (Why did I expect them to be anything other than 15-16? I'm so dumb.)
Edited to note that it was quite amusing to watch these episodes with someone who actually speaks Arabic. XD
