Kekkai.org's undergoing tweaks and the left hand's not caught up with the right: FTP works fine but HTML is down, meaning that I cannot actually post the songs I uploaded, and thus you get irritating fake!songlinks for formatting purposes. As well, the LJ memories function is still disabled. Anyone who feels like reading any fic of mine today is SOFL. Now I remember why I wanted to back everything up at my FFN account (although was too lazy to ever do so ^^;). Though I'm not worried, as no doubt the situation on both fronts is temporary. EDIT -- Ah, 'tis back up. XD
David Sylvian - Forbidden Colours: I'd never heard this song up until last week, when someone posted it to
audiography, although (as happens often enough) I was vaguely aware of its existence. Like it a fair bit; it's... very Ryuuichi Sakamoto. But on the fifth or sixth time I played it since Monday it suddenly fell into place: this is what whoever-it-was who wrote all those Zetsuai/Bronze image songs was aiming for. The sound of it, I mean, the sparse slow percussion and ominous strings and piano noodlings and David Sylvian. And not just Z/B, surely there was a bunch of early-ish 90s dramatic shoujoBL that had image music like this?
Let alone the lyrics of the thing:
The wounds on your hands never seem to heal
I thought all I needed was to believe
Here am I, a lifetime away from you
The blood of Christ, or the beat of my heart
My love wears forbidden colours
My life believes
Senseless years thunder by
Millions are willing to give their lives for you
Does nothing live on?
Learning to cope with feelings aroused in me
My hands in the soil, buried inside of myself
My love wears forbidden colours
My life believes in you once again
I'll go walking in circles
While doubting the very ground beneath me
Trying to show unquestioning faith in everything
Here am I, a lifetime away from you
The blood of Christ, or a change of heart
My love wears forbidden colours
My life believes
My love wears forbidden colours
My life believes in you once again
It all makes a terrifying sort of sense now. XD
When I first heard "Domino Dancing" I realised it encompassed all those Hayashibara Megumi opening themes for Slayers/Lost Universe/Saber Marionette/whatever, what with the synth sounds and the spanish guitar bridge. Anime music is still chock full of stuff that sounds unique to me because I haven't found proper antecedents for it, though. Heck, I don't know how to genre Weiss; though Weiss's song titles are one giant horking in-joke. It takes a perverse sense of humour to name songs "My Bloody Valentine" and "Stone Roses".
Prince - Diamonds and Pearls:
ayatsujik said last night that she didn't think she could write thirty kisses - metaphorical or not - for a single pairing, not even RuHana. To which I said, surely one can squeeze five or so kisses out of Rukawa listening to Prince? XD ...Actually the explanation is simple: Inoue Takehiko is a Prince fan and wrote in the lyrics of what he had playing in the background as he was inking speech bubbles. But that doesn't mean it's not funny.
Prince - International Lover: "In case of overexcitement, your seat cushion may be used as a flotation device." (Yamane Ayano should do a pilot x air steward; I'll suggest it next time I bump into her during happy hour at Jay's Bar.)
