Mori Ranmaru warms the perverse cockles of my heart. He doesn't really look it in the anime, but in the novels he's described as... Shinichi out of Nana, basically. Except unapologetically evil and conniving. Kuwabara rather neglects to mention how he's dressed, so I arbitrarily picture him in Shin's tartan bondage pants and beret. Or a private school uniform with a tie. <3 Besides I will bet anything that unlike certain other loyal retainers, Ranmaru actually gets laid.

Speaking of which, they should just revive Voldie, I mean Nobunaga, because I can't take the suspense. What's stopping them? >_> Akechi Mitsuhide's on the prowl for cripes' sake. I am looking forward to it besides, as (unlike JKR) Kuwabara Mizuno is the sort of writer where you'd expect the bad guys to average out sexier, angstier and gheier than the good guys. Mind you outdoing the Uesugi in this sense may be difficult, but by rights Nobunaga ought to turn up as the sort of character Charmian makes shrines to. XD

I start to write about Haruie, and then I stop and start again, and finally I decided I'll read up to book 9 before I try to discuss at length. The series sez she takes female bodies for the sake of her lover, who is just that heterosexual I guess, but she doesn't at all come across as a gay man in a female body. Of course this ties in with the inherent gender/identity issue - the majority of both onryou and kanshousha go for bodies that fit how they "perceive" themselves, I think, in terms of gender, age and so on (niggling suspicion that part of Ranmaru's TOS is that he has to be a cute bishounen uke in every lifetime) - but when Mogami Yoshiyasu shows up it's in a female body, and then he switches to male, and it's not something that rates a mention to him or anyone else. Then again, Chiaki/Nagahide - say - doesn't at all come across as 400 years old, so maybe I'm expecting too much subtlety from the characterisation and the issue doesn't bear the weight of analysis. XD

...Although with Chiaki you have to wonder how much of it is Kagetora's memory loss. Takaya's not-remembering (and utter male-adolescent-ness) changed the entire group dynamic, not just his relationship with Naoe. Haruie went from awe/respect verging on hero-worship (it reminds me of how Kazuki feels about Raitei in GB) to loving but oft-exasperated older sister. Nagahide is actually the second most powerful of the Uesugi, and the other person to be truly happy that Takaya was regaining his powers, as his schtick with Kagetora was more along the lines of Shounen Rivals (tm). Or whatever Shounen Rivals gets to be after several centuries of fighting alongside each other. Given that Kagetora's chip was wiped, Chiaki seems to have decided on some level to oblige him and reboot their relationship from Level 1: Dumb Teenage Male Posturing. All very cyclical and Buddhist. XD

You know, it takes massive balls to put clips of yourself singing on the interweb. I applaud you.

...oh, now I'll have Girl from Ipanema in my head forever. Very nice.

Ah, it's a meme. I was actually bullied into it, because I've listened to six or seven people on my flist shame themselves already, so I feel obliged. XD

Goodness, so many people of the interweb have balls.

...I would do it, but I don't know what I'd sing.

Gods, why do I read LJ-cut posts for series I'm refusing to get into? I'm already in one fandom where it will take ten thousand years of puzzling, and now you further destroy my image of you by moXX0ring me in cut posts! XD

So, if I happen to be in easy striking range of a BookOff, what other identifiers do I need besides "炎のミラジュ," and is that actually spelled right? This is a book, not a manga, so I'm a bit lost. Thanks for any help!

I'm not m0xx0ring you! I really do classify characters mentally according to whether I think people I know would fangirl them. XD;; And I also read your lj-cut posts, I just forget all of the info as soon as I finish reading because I have no idea who the people are.

It's actually 炎の蜃気楼 (Honoo no Shinkirou). The author's name is Kuwabara Mizuna - 桑原水菜 - I just realised I've been misspelling it. ^^; The imprint's Cobalt Bunko, they mostly do romance novels I think. Spine's blue with white lettering. You can get the ISBNs for the first few off my site, http://www.petronia.net/mirage/

ahahah, now i sorta get something other people said about me after hearing my voice for the first time (and having read my posts and e-mails and such for ages). i had never thought your speaking voice would be pitched about as low as mine is. XD i didn't think it'd be all high and squeaky, either, but it isn't quite the Sabina-voice i heard in my head. XD

where'd the meme come from? and this reminds me, we need to put new MP3s on the band site, because we sound a whole lot better than we used to do---and moreover, i remember more of the lyrics these days and have a better microphone. XDXD

i shall sing for j00 if j00 want. *ponders* should we alter it and have people give commands for other people to sing? XD

Nah, go ahead and m0xxor me. Although, I'm amazed that you know the taste of other people that well. Hell, I don't even know my own tastes that certainly. (Sounds like that might make a good meme--what do other people think your taste in characters is. XD)

I read lots of LJ cut posts, unless I have no interest absolutely in the fandom ever, because sometimes they do contain interesting tangental stuff.

I know other people's tastes better than my own, I think. (With my own I get hung up on wondering why I'm attracted to certain characters; with others I just look for patterns. XD)

It's not the Sabina-voice I hear in my head either. XD;;;;

The meme comes from [livejournal.com profile] absenceofmind, though she didn't so much post as wear her victims down in person over MSN... I would very much like you to sing for me. XD I was actually given requests myself (told to sing "Regret", for one), but once I tried I realised I was incapable of singing a cappella unless it was something I had sung a cappella countless times already. So Girl From Ipanema it was. ^^;

XD it's taken me time to get used to how my voice sounds in recordings. i'm sure it sounds completely different to someone listening to me speak live than it does either in my head or recorded, but unfortunately i doubt i'll ever know what that sounds like. XD

what would you like me to sing? of course, it's easier if it's something i already know, but if there's something in particular you want and can post an MP3 of, i can attempt it. am willing to sing in pretty much any language, if i'm given an example to work with. though i can't say i think anyone wants to hear my French, cos my pronunciation is horrid. XDXDXD

Hmmm. With some people, their tastes are fairly clear and repetitive, but others are more mysterious and some outright confusing. Besides, I suspect they change over time, just as tastes in books and music and such.

forgot i still had this up. XD

i don't consider this fair, as while it's rough, it's a demo done with a) someone else, and b) instruments other than the voice. but if you go here (http://kerfuffle.org/the_vault/duvet_demo_v1.mp3) and login with "auralexam" and enter the pword "3ust4ch14n," you can here a very rough demo me and my incredibly brilliant guitarist (and his ProTools XD) did awhile ago.
