Let me ask you the following question: can you imagine what it must be like to be Katie Forsythe right now?

Mind you, for all I know Katie Forsythe does not like the Ritchie!Holmes movies. She'd be well within her rights! Sometimes, Hollywood commits to a movie adaptation of your work only to warp it beyond recognition for no good reason. It happened to poor Susan Cooper, and at this vantage point Katie's stories certainly seemed more sparing on machine guns and bombings. But in the "someone else has paid upward of 100M$ for Robert Downey Jr. to star in my fan fiction" life goal sweepstakes, there are worse places to be than in a winners' circle with Joss Whedon.

...More seriously, the scriptwriters totally picked up on the same thing I picked up on when I re-read the Moriarty stories, which I'm not going to state because it is a spoiler! No, not the Greuze.

(And yes, I have crawled back just to write a comedy movie review. My major deadline passed today with flying colours, and I had a few hours of cheerful optimism before I realized I had THREE WHOLE DAYS in which to write my Yuletide story, since I'm hosting a party tomorrow.)

(Chalk it up to sheer obliviousness; we were at the theater twice over the past few weeks for Muppets and Tintin, and didn't notice the posters.)

Yeah, that was actually the bestest. XD Especially since Ritchie gave you a full two minutes before that moment to ponder the idea of RDJ in his white gloves, waltzing, and decide that you were OK with this being part of your world.

If they are always going to have this served over Advent they should at least have the good grace to make the Blue Carbuncle a subplot next time around. XD;

It's not any less of a rip of Katie Forsythe than it is of ACD, is how I see it, because Katie wrote out all the angst around Watson getting married + Reichenbach and Doyle didn't. XD; It's like Katie + slo-mo explosions - explicit sex.

I would advise you to be classy like my sister and me, and sneak a bottle of cheap white zinfandel in. This is a movie that calls for pink wine.

speaking of ACD, i should hurry up and finish all those short stories! there are a lot of them. :o

this was a movie that required so much booze, but in a good way, really, if only to dull the pain of all the slow-mo. (SERIOUSLY, SOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUUUUUUUUUUUCH SLOOOOOOOOOOOOW-MOOOOOOOOOOOOO.) you should tell me the thing you picked up on (or allude to it covertly till I figure it out); I've reread them recently as well, and I didn't pick up anything in particular? but mostly I was squawking about Moran being fiiiiiiiiiine and, ummmmmm, how almost everyone else in the movie was gay gay gay GAY, even when they weren't.

Oh, uh, the fact that a lot of Holmes' chasing after Moriarty, tying him to Moran etc. consisted of forensic accounting. XD Which makes total sense, I mean, if you had something like that in reality... but exactly the sort of thing ACD would never bother to write out.

This movie, man. How did RDJ get to the point where Hollwood plunks down hundreds of millions of $ for him to do improv? Like, starring in franchises is one thing, but the more I poke at the way these films get made IRL the wackier it seems.
