1) Walked barefoot into the Grand Canal under the Rialto bridge as this was the only way to get a good view of the regatta. Did not catch any diseases and was not eaten by space alien fish. It was ridic hot and humid, anyway.

2) Hung around red carpet area for lulz because there was a crowd gathering. Car rolled up and dropped off Benedict Cumberbatch. Obviously this was the day I forgot my camera back at the hotel.

3) I got some fuzzy iPod footage of eg. the back of Andy Lau's head, Colin Firth's wife's dress, someone on the rooftop who amazingly resembled Angelina Jolie, etc. though. I am really not a very enthusiastic nor effective celebrity chaser XD but when you put me in that situation I can't resist the lulz.

4) Taiwanese contemporary art installation involves massive fuzzy cube covered with giant metallic ants, a video animation about retro candies, and Tsuji Ayano's "Kaze ni naru". I am instantly the weirdo singing "Kaze ni naru" out loud while wandering through an art exhibition.

5) Also there was a giant plush version of Charlotte the Witch out of Madoka!

5) Spent approximately 45,103 hours riding the vaporetto, plus the day I had to walk because the vaporetto was on strike. Next time I go back to staying on San Zaccaria.

6) My hotel was called Locanda del Ghetto and sat on a little island in the middle of Cannaregio, and yet this did not click until I actually arrived and saw all the Jewish businesses. (There wasn't a Jewish community left at the end of WWII, but all the historical synagogues are there, so...)

7) Compulsively wrote movie reviews. (WHY??) From beginning to end I think I wrote 3000+ words. About five of those Tumblr entries were about Shame, which [personal profile] flax (who saw it at Telluride) described as "a serious arty version of 'Like A Boss'."** I still have thoughts about this film, which hasn't happened since Up In The Air. Plus the tangential fascination of watching Michael Fassbender undergo an imperial phase in the same way a pop star would, i.e. by banging out hit singles one after the other until critics are basically stunned into submission. This is bizarre because I wouldn't have said it worked this way with film, at all, ever. After about a week of that the Tumblr XMFC fandom imploded under sheer remorseless pressure and the tags I was tracking all became useless. Except #Catavoy of course.

** Accurate. (Also have [profile] astrael_nyx's review, which just appeared on my flist.)

I have to write more thoughts about this ridic movie. Forget the Oscars, what I care about is whether Fox Searchlight can get it a NAmerican release in time for Yuletide noms, bawling.

Looked at them and was vaguely kerblonxed at a movie about Fassbinder as a sexual addict that every woman wants to screw until I remembered Fassbinder is Rainer Werther (snicker for the second name) and this is someone or other called Fassbender, Michael.

ETA: OK it's late. Werner, then.

I'm going to unlock that particular post, though it mostly consists of my flailing about how bloody gorgeous the entire film is, visually and narratively.

Haaaaa at that (although Fassbender, Michael was also in a different movie in which he played Carl Jung, and Aragorn Viggo Mortensen played Freud, so really you never know).

Wow, sounds fab. Careful about the lecherous old men on the vaporetto. A lot of them also ride along all day and use the crush of tourists as an excuse for being pervy.
