Jul. 26th, 2004 02:00 amFinally over the hump vis workload. =_=; Went to the 9:30PM Fantasia showing of A Tale of Two Sisters, and narrated the story of The Uninvited to Tania in the car afterward, in the interest of sharing the pain. (T is a wuss and thus invites torture. She didn't so much watch the movie as huddle through it while her boifurendo kindly blocked her eyes; an improvement on Ringu, where she put on headphones and played music loudly so she couldn't hear what was happening onscreen.) Anyhow, A Tale of Two Sisters is gothic horror in the tradition of "The Turn of the Screw" - I think that's the only Henry James I honestly like ^^; - beautifully shot, with heavy Freudian psychosexual subtext and a classic "Asian horror" style. Ringu to the despite, in most of these films the supernatural is birthed by the human heart: no less substantial for being manifestations of repressed guilt/fear/desire. CLAMP does this a lot too, which is probably why mental crossovers are so easy. XD (The themes and action of this particular movie are disturbing to me personally; Subaru probably wouldn't like it much either.)

... I think that's the only time I screamed during a horror film, and that was more out of surprise than anything.
