You wanna know something, seriously? I bet I could make a mix CD for Quentin Tarentino that he'd like. I've heard enough of his "mixes", after all; the Pulp Fiction OST was one of the first albums I owned and turned me onto entire genres. When I first gave the Kill Bill Vol.1 OST a playthrough I was struck by how much it sounded like an old buddy I didn't know I had.

I'd provisorily extend the offer to Sophia Coppola and Wim Wenders, but that might be a stretch goal. XD

(Something similar applies to all of you, btw. If you're on my flist and you blog mp3s and/or talk about the music you like, chances are I have at least a partial tracklist in my head with your name on it. It's how I keep count.)

As for the movie... Yeah, I liked it. But not in the same way as the first half (to achieve that it would've had to top House of Blue Leaves, natch XD). Instead I was startled to realise near the end of the film that I liked the world it built and felt desolate to leave it behind. I wanted to play there some more, with those characters; make up interstitial prequel fanfiction, maybe... Obviously it's whatever it is that makes me a diehard Schwarzfic writer talking, but I couldn't tell you what that was.

Haven't seen Vol. 2 yet, but man, do I want to!

Yeah, that's one thing I love about Tarantino ... the man has some pretty damn good taste in soundtracks. ;-)

So, does that count me, or have I sort of slipped below audial range, as it were? I'm curious.

(You know Splashdown, right? Of course you do. Anyway.)

This is the part where I ask you to help me co-author my incredibly bizarre, fanon-laden, B.B./Nikki (remember Nikki?) futurefic, in hopes that it'll actually get written. Or, better, you'll just steal the idea and do it yourself, because my main contribution to the thing will pretty much just be demolitions/anatomy porn.

But boy, I will lap up anything you create out of that world from a dog-bowl, yo.

And the OST is the bomb. I've been listening to "Duel Without Honor or Humanity" on loop on my Lyra for... um... embarassingly long.

No no, you're there. *thinks* It's been a while, though. If I were to start on it today the artists represented would be different, if not the general sound. ("Immediately melodic electropop/rock with non-dumb lyrics that in a perfect world would make a killing on the radio, as opposed to the sort of indie-as-fuck music that wouldn't work on radio even in a perfect world; some urban, some Japanese". ...Note that this is not me trying to sum up your musical tastes, just what I'd aim for first if I wanted to pull 80min worth of songs from my collection in hopes of sharing the liking.)

Didn't actually know Splashdown - apart from synths guy, it turns out, but the name didn't click - though I googled it just now. *g* If you like them, try Vixtrola. /end channelling of Amazon.com

B.B./Nicki: I have actually considered this. XD Look, who am I kidding, I probably wouldn't ever write anything for this film, because it falls squarely within the range of "if I had the ability to pull off the requisite style and plottiness I'd be better off saving the juice for origfic". But that don't mean I don't got ideas. Lone She-Wolf And Cub, j0.

Yeah, Tomoyasu Hotei. XD Though I realised after a while that instead of giving QT credit for knowing all these artists, I should more precisely give him credit for knowing which parts of which soundtracks of other films to rip off. But 'tis all good.

Oddly enough, that pretty much is my musical tastes, as long as you leave aside all the whiny Gaelic fock rolk, traditional "classical", reconstructionist blargh of any epoch pre-1650, and all the Baroque stuff done up Academy of Ancient style. So.

Vixtrola? Will do. BTW, I have a buttload of SD now, if you want.

Heh heh heh. Great minds... think like perverts!

There's definitely something to that, although that's starting to be all my fic ideas these days, alas. What I really want to do is write up a big wanky essay about how it's all a feminist critique and also a brilliant piece of metatext, just of the ENTIRE HISTORY OF CROSS-CULTURAL CINEMA. I mean, the meta-casting.

You know what would be great? If someone gave QT a million dollars, sent him out into the wilds of Tokyo to collect manga, and then locked him into a room and made him write a script, which would then be character-designed by Amano, actually drawn by - hm - Tajima Shou - and then, uh, reillustrated by David Mack. In color. Or maybe just done by David Mack to begin with.

Well, it'd make me come.

Though I realised after a while that instead of giving QT credit for knowing all these artists, I should more precisely give him credit for knowing which parts of which soundtracks of other films to rip off. But 'tis all good.

Has Goodnight Moon ever been in a movie? I have to admit, I squeaked in joy when I heard that.

Oh, and the actual fucking point I was going to make in that comment: have you heard the Back to Mine series? Bunch of artists basically make, well, mix tapes of shit they like, along with one exclusive track of their own?

(Lost comment somewhere along the line, argh)

Back To Mine: yeah, I have, 'cos New Order did one. /* lame */ There is (or was) a bunch of them on the one recommended shelf in the downtown Indigo music section that's obviously stocked by the one clerk who shares my musical tastes, but they're 30$CAN pre-tax and I looked at them and thought, well, do I really wanna shell out thirty bucks for a mix tape? Even if it's by a band I like? ...Actually, I owned most of the tracks on the New Order CD, because apparently I'm such a lamer fan I even like the same music they like. So I could've just gone home and burned myself one. >_>

I've spotted similar efforts here and there. Ladytron have one - I remember it had the original Wire version of "The 15th", like a thinly-veiled diss of Fischerspooner (I'll flip off the music journalism switch soon, I swear!) - and I've heard tell of this promotional Air double CD set that sounds pretty sweet.

Amano, Tajima Shou, David Mack: ...hey, you should read Tenjou Tenge. I think the manga's actually scanlated and up on BT, I ran across the torrents googling. I mean, right now I'd probably say that to anyone, 'cos it's EETEN MY BRAINZ, but you're one of the people whom I think is more assured of liking it. Just. The hotness of the characters. Male and female. Is incredible. I mean it's got a good story of the all-people-kicking-ass-all-the-time JoJo-type, but mostly I was there like LALALA INCEST LEATHER MOTORCYCLE KATANA PORN.

am mildly curious to see what sort of soundtrack you have in mind for moi. don't think the last mix is it, or if it is, am mildly surprised. ^_^;;;;;

What was on the last mix? Wasn't that just a dance mix of sorts? ^^;

heh, am definitely curious to see what would be on your ST for me. XD [livejournal.com profile] moderntime and i discussed this awhile ago, what sort of soundtracks we'd have for ourselves. i think we sort of abandoned the idea because it's too easy to do badly, much like an autobiography. XD but someone else, now. that could be the basis of a rather interesting swap among a group of people who all at least sorta know each other...XD

Well, I'm not really thinking a soundtrack to explicate you as a person, or my view of you. XD (Or a "Top 15 Songs I Think Are Classic", because we're each of us alone with our conscience on that one...) More a sort of, "hey, Janni likes this - bet she'll love that!" times 80 minutes.

The swap sounds like a good idea, though. XD

aha. a personalised sl0reage mix. that's the kind i usually make, or used to in the olden days. though now since i've got a working (and oh boy does it ever work!) turntable again, haps the old evil C90 wub shall ride again...>D

indeed. interesting swap indeed. ^^

Well, that, and that personal sountracks tend to differ, at least for me, a great deal on circumstance. (And perhaps pomp, but, anyway.) Like, there's a great deal of overlap in the music I'm associating with my grad school situ right now and the music I'm associating with Death Note due to a certain annoying roommate etc. XD

Actually, though, could be fun, what you say, no?....

i say "go!" though oh lord, the backlog i've got on mix CDs is going to be something fierce...XD
