My sister is reading the most tattered copy ever of The King Must Die. Thus I am reading it too. Logically speaking I don't think it's a sequel to anything, but tell me if it is (Tuna didn't realise The Persian Boy was Book 2, so). It's all very Greco-Roman lately: sororial unit is also reading I, Claudius, to which my dad is listening in audiobook. It's alarming to realise how little I retain of the actual text, apart from the fact that I enjoyed it. But then Robert Graves is a childhood thing for me, like Tolkien, and whenever I think about Greek myths they come to me in the warm humourous professorial voice in which I first "heard" them narrated. So I shall just have to read I, Claudius again.

Maybe I'll go buy it.

...

...Yeah, okay, I've been watching R.O.D. TV. Burned the first eight eps for [livejournal.com profile] starlighter - my love for Yukino Satsuki knows no bounds. She's definitely one of my favorite female seiyuu, close to topping the list. And the animation is jaw-droppingly gorgeous. Saa, minna, watch it with me. Then we can all write wistful femslash go out and buy some books, or something.

In other news, I finally got around to watching Finding Nemo, but forgot to blog a note to that effect in the whirl of [livejournal.com profile] starlighter's visit. XD And thanks to her I'm incubating some sort of meta-meta-discourse on Hojo Akira's characterisation and recurrent themes that's guaranteed to bore even the ZukaFuji shipper sub-group of the TeniPuri contigent. I lit-crit doujinshi, that's how spehshul I am. >_>

In other-other news... you know, I always figured Toshiki x Ren would be interesting. As in I'd write it. But with GetBackers I stick like a burr to manga continuity, so it would require me to Make Shit Up, and furthermore confuse myself like mad with the way the anime and manga contradict each other. But it's an example of something I was thinking when reading this thread of [livejournal.com profile] incandescens's, which is that my crack pairings tend to be het and vice-versa. ^^;; Hullo, Atobe x An! Or Yuuta x An, for obvious dynamic reasons. I say this with a clear conscience, as I'm very sure An isn't some sort of Mary Sue for me; the proof of which is, uh, that at various times I've also considered Tezuka x Yumiko (see, now there's one with a transgressive social dynamic), Tezuka x Sakuno ([livejournal.com profile] beckymarie's fault plus it's like obviously early Harry x Ginny), Atobe x Tomoka (theirloveissobeautymark), various other Tomoka pairings I shall elide out of belated good sense, and the Sengoku x Yumiko I keep talking about. It's all unspeakably sad, when you consider that my reaction to, for instance, Sanada x Atobe is "...say what?"** But as canon!het is often unspeakably boring, so does crack!het carry an impish appeal. Or possibly this is another mark of spehshulness.

And now I'm thinking, damn, I should've made a quiz like [livejournal.com profile] worldserpent said to and used the above as one of the questions. XD

** Well, actually that's not really fair. I do read TeniPuri BL arbitrarily defined as crack, though the idea tends to be less compelling the further away it gets from canon (and I had to learn the hard way that random St.R pairings are just traumatising to me =_=). And I suppose one day I shall ask the flist to give me their Top 10 List Of BeKami Fics or something, so I won't have to wade. But I think I just have an issue with Sanada, more than anything else. Tuna said - wisely - that it all sort of depends on whether you can picture Sanada dancing, and that if you couldn't you have no business reading those crack pairings.
