Kraftwerk vs. Right Said Fred - Sexy Model (frenchbloke and son bootleg)
It's a historical inevitability and you know it.
The context: I'm in the car with Tania a lot. While in the car the radio gets put on. When the radio is on there's a game that's played - and you'll note I don't say "we play this game," because I disclaim all responsibility for it despite the fact that the game has been played since time immemorial or at least since T got her license, only with different [insert character and/or RL person] variables. It goes like this:
T: The next song--
S (reflexively): Oh gawd.
T: The next song is Atobe's. *turns up the volume*
Radio: o/~ Only when I'm dancing can I feel this free
At night I lock the doors, where no one else can see o/~
S: ...This is the Funkytown show on 92.5.
T: Yes?
S: GREATEST DANCE HITS FROM THE SEVENTIES AND EIGHTIES? ISN'T THAT STACKING THE CARDS JUST A LITTLE?
T: The next song is Tezuka's!
Radio: o/~ You can dance, you can jive, having the time of your liiife o/~
S: ......(Yaru jan.)
T *bouncing car over potholes*: The discoball flashes! Curtain goes up, revealing Tezuka on the stage! He takes the mike!
Radio: o/~ Friday night and the lights are low
looking out for the place to go
where they play the right music
getting in the swing
you come to look for a king o/~
T: Coloured lights reveal all of Seigaku on the dancefloor! Inui's trying to get Kaidou to dance with him but Kaidou will have none of it! Fuji's--
Radio: o/~ Anybody could be that guy
night is young and the music's-- o/~
All (automatically): o/~ Hiiigh-- o/~
T (picking up where she left off): --leaning against a pillar looking cool, and Eiji's doing, uh--
S (giving up): --acrobatic b-boy moves--
T: Yes! *cuts off a van in the next lane* And Momo and Taka onstage as backing dancers, and Ryouma!
Radio: o/~ With a bit of rock music
everything is fine
you're in the mood for a dance
and when you get the chance o/~
T: Ryouma's grooving in the audience, and as the music--
Radio: o/~ You are the dancing queen
young and sweet only seventeen o/~
T: Rises to a peak--
Radio: o/~ Dancing queen
feel the beat from the tambourine, oh yeah o/~
T: He runs up to the stage, jumps--
Radio: o/~ You can dance, you can jive
having the time of your liiiiife o/~
S (now unavoidably attuned to this vision): --and is lifted in Momo's arms Dirty Dancing style.
T: Yes! And Ooishi tosses a basketful of sparkle powder over Tezuka! *narrowly misses running a light*
Radio: o/~ see that girl, watch that scene
diggin the dancing queen o/~
[song continues and ends]
S: ...That all?
T: Next song is Inui's!
Radio: *starts to play Safety Dance*
[fade to black]
I swear Wayne and Garth have nothing on us. Nothing.

Date: 2004-03-08 08:01 am (UTC)We do the radio!crack thing far too often. I drive it out of my mind. I mean just this particular round lasted far longer than I intimated - through Inui's rendition of "Safety Dance" with the Ichinen trio doing the Egyptian, Mizuki's take on "Stayin' Alive" during which Momo and Kamio had a falling out that ended with most of Seigaku, Fudoumine and St.R chasing each other around the dancefloor in Peter Sellers slapstick farce style, Momo doing "I Will Survive" from the school rooftop with wind blowing dramatically, Fuji's... I'm damned if I know the title to the song, actually, except that it has this male "oo oo oo" chorus like Kung-Fu Fighting. And Kaidou, who ended up with "Le Freak, C'est Chic". Both the DJ and the riffing were particularly inspired that night.

Date: 2004-03-07 11:32 am (UTC)My my, how can I resist you?
Mamma mia, does it show again?
My my, just how much I’ve missed you
Yes, I’ve been brokenhearted
Blue since the day we parted
Why, why did I ever let you go?
Mamma mia, now I really know,
My my, I could never let you go.
You forgot this one!
Before ABBA, there was Queen

Date: 2004-03-08 07:52 am (UTC)The music collection is probably not as l33t as you think. (And not enough ABBA either.) But the Right Said Fred mash-up was too apposite not to share.
Tezuka to "Yesterday Once More": very true. (In fact I get misty-eyed to that song. Don't no one dare to diss the Carpenters, j0. XD) And now that everyone's busy at work on bandAU!fic, it may be time to consider You Are Under Arrest AU!fic.
