EDIT -- Please link to the HTML version here.

What I have learnt from the last meme is that a great many of you have known me (or of me, or have been reading me pikapika chirachira hanyaan) for a far longer time than I'd assumed. In the interim I also learnt from my tracker that about 110 people visited my site the day I put up the new layout - about four times the usual - and four of those 110 people commented. This is not to say that I demand more comments, because I don't answer all of mine as it is; merely that I think these two facts are somewhat related. In a facets of human nature sense. XD

Okay! This is a designated informative entry. Some days back I took birthdays down from 20.5 for Talya, and thought it would be worthwhile to do a full list so people could, like, link back to it. Saints know I need something like that for myself. (What I should do is put up an HTML page in the translations section of my site, but nobody does that nowadays. Baa.) Thus:

Kirihara: September 25, Libra, age 13

That took longer than expected, to no one's surprise but my own. >_> Remember that the Japanese school year begins in April and ends in March, and kids graduate junior high at 15. Not to say that my math has no mistakes in it, because it probably does.

Randomzoid observations:

* Kachiro is the youngest character. Marui is the oldest. *cracks up*
* For that matter, Jirou's the oldest in Hyotei.
* Fuji and Yuuta have birthdays ten days apart (to either side of mine ^^;), and are both young for their years. Yukimura is the youngest for his year. Thus, Fuji is closer to Kaidou's age than he is to Ooishi's, and Yukimura is closer to Kirihara's age than Sanada's. If you want to be logical about the series - always an iffy proposition - this goes a long way toward explaining why the second years are so much bigger than the first years. They're only a grade apart, but Momo is actually 1 1/2 years older than Ryouma; Kaidou is nearly 2 years older than Kachiro.
* Inui is exactly one day older than Renji. They're the only ones to have June birthdays.
* Most all the Hyotei third years have their birthdays in September-October.
* Ryouma was born on Christmas Eve, Dan on the day after New Year's, Kaneda on New Year's Eve and Ohtori on Valentine's Day.
* People with the same birthdays (the j-fen have a lot of fun with this):
-- Shishido and Kurobane (September 29)
-- Horio and Kirihara (September 25)
-- Shinji and Jackal (November 3)
-- the Kisaragi twins (well, duh - November 20)
-- Ikeda and Sakurai (July 18)

* My impression was right: there really are twice as many charas born in July-December as January-June.

January: 2 / February 4 / March: 3 / April: 5 / May: 4 / June: 2 / July: 5 / August: 5 / September: 6 / October: 8 / November: 9 / December: 6

Uhh... and the fanbook calculates that Fuji actually has his eyes open 37% of the time, so... /end useless statistics

The other thing I wanted to post: while going through the character profile pages attentively, I realised that a lot of them included "suggested careers". (Not to mention totem spirits, as if they knew I'd be reading, but I'll leave that for some other time.) These aren't futurecanon or anything, thank heavens, but I find them rather sporflingly amusing as guidelines. XD

Ryouma: pilot, astronaut
Tezuka: Yuki Eiri novelist
Ooishi: artist
Fuji: something in the artistic domain
Kikumaru: model, "talent", childcare worker
Inui: lawyer, accountant, notary
Kawamura: it doesn't say, so I'll assume sushiya ^^;
Momoshiro: sportsman, coach
Kaidou: event planner [......like, what, a wedding planner?]

Last note on Tezuka: he was an explorer in his past life. As in Mason and Dixon, Sir Edmund Hillary, Ferdinand Magellan. (This is stated as canon.) ...I know, it explains so bloody much, dunnit.

Yukimura's very Pisces. I'm actually not so sure about Fuji - I fairly identify with Fuji and I personally think I'm a very bad Pisces, so. XD Fuji seems more of an air sign to me. But really, it's just that he has to be weird and be born on February 29.

*dances* It's my birthday! And Tsuzuki's!

Oh my god I share the same star sign as Akutsu??? Ooishi, on the other hand, is no surprise -- I suspect that's why I never have the urge to write him, because the goopy maternal side of me identifies far too well with the boy.

I refuse to believe that Jirou and Kaidou are Taureans.

Okay, well, Akutsu is apparently an Aries. Ouf. XD

Thanks! ^^; Fixed now. I was thinking that I'll check all the dates against a proper astrology book when I get home, actually, because there were egregious errors in the fanbook that I caught. >_> But because I don't know most of the cusp dates I may have missed some.

OTOH Kabaji is probably my bad. It's the way it's written in kanji; the goat sign and... er, the other goat sign.

you'll check ALL the dates? whoa, that'll be...a lot of work, ya...

cusp dates are tricky...i've seen marui listed on fansites as a taurus. plus, sanada and i have the same birthdate, but my taurus mother is sure i'm gemini.

Kikumaru is the cute acrobatic bouncy redhead with the flipped-out hairdo. *g* He always plays doubles. He's the youngest of several siblings, owns a giant teddy bear and is obsessed with toothpaste... can be a bit thoughtless and easily distracted at times.

You need to put this on your website. So it doesn't get lost. It's useful.

(I have this fear of LJ going boom and losing entries, mainly because it ate a whole mess of [livejournal.com profile] serendip's comments on mine last year)

Cool! Notice all the data experts are Gemini?
The future careers bit is interesting: I can see most of them, but Ooishi seems more like maybe an art-related career, like landscape design or architecture. Maybe Kaidou can pick stuff up from Inui and go on to run one of those insane business training camps, that sort of "event?"
Tezuka as Yuki Eiri -- so true! Unfortunately, even if you grant Fuji=!Touma, I think you're left with _Dan_ as the best possible Shuuichi.... My brain hurts.

Kikumaru. Clearly Kikumaru. Did I just suggest TezuEiji? This is a very wrong train of thought.

Inui is obviously K.

Whaaat!?! Meril is watching PoT?

Tezuka was an explorer....
Thanks for all the ii data, although of course I'm not going to do anything productive with it, and now my brain hurts trying to imagine Kaidoh as a wedding planner or someone who runs conventions, although my time in the service industry has shown me that ability to hiss and snarl comes in handy in those industries.

[Hmm, and I was alll wrong with the suggested careers when I posted about them, though I couldn't figure out Momo, but he would be a good coach. And you were right that Fuji would be a photographer or something. Maybe in National Geographic. .... Totem animal? This I've got to see. I need to get 20.5. ;_;]

From: [identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com
I think everyone's wrong about the suggested careers. XD The idea of Tezuka as novelist is rather tempting, though. He'd be... Thoreau, maybe, or Paul Theroux.

Totem mythological animals. (Is that shapeshifter AU fic I see on the horizon?)

Date: 2004-02-24 12:31 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] worldserpent.livejournal.com
Yeah, they're only in JS, after all. Though: I don't think Tezuka is misanthropic and cranky enough to be Paul Theroux--whose books I do like, though his travel writings more than his novels. [Met him in passing a few months ago; he lives in Honolulu. ]

Mythological animals! 0_o The obscure ones, or the obvious choices?

Date: 2004-02-24 12:56 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com
You met Paul Theroux! O_O

I just see Tezuka hiking around exotic locales and writing books set in them. :D However he doesn't have enough of a sense of humour to be Graham Greene. I wonder what chunk of the planet he discovered in his past life?

Obvious choices, or at least those I've spotted. Uhh, Momo = dragon, Sengoku = unicorn. (Smile and nod.)

Date: 2004-02-24 01:25 pm (UTC)
From: [identity profile] worldserpent.livejournal.com
Yep, but I just told him I liked his books and that was it. He looks like his picture on the book jacket. (Interestingly, he's married to a woman from this state. My mom kind of knew of her in high school.)

Yeah, but I can't quite see Tezuka kayaking around the South Pacific and wondering whether the Pacific fondness for Spam (popular Hawaii dish: spam musubi) developed out of ancient cannibalistic practices. He seems very much like someone who'd explore the Artic on dogsled.

Critters: That will provoke AU fic. Well, if I see any weird animals in Japanese fanart, I'll know why.

No, I'm not reading/watching PoT. I do have much affection for Sabina's tenacity at translating and posting 'useless' information that ficcers in the Western fandom can grab.

Jirou: OMG! Atobe! It's the Touya Akira! Did you see his games in the Hokuto Cup? Do you think he has time to play me?! That would be SO AWESOME!
Atobe: ....Jirou, you play Go?

Usually he falls asleep a few minutes into fuseki. (X

re "talent": Actually I can really see Kikumaru realising--maybe in mid-highschool--that music is a fun and sparkly path to fame, and starting up a perky synthpop band. He wouldn't sing all that well, but it's all about the bouncing around turning cartwheels on stage, posing for the cameras, and just generally being incredibly cute. The 12-14 fangirl crowd would eat it up.

You are very right. XD Johnnies would come for him in a heartbeat. And I'm pretty sure I read a fic about Eiji working with kiddies, as well.

Let me get this straight.

It is CANONICALLY STATED that Tezuka was an explorer in his past life?

Date: 2004-03-03 08:13 am (UTC)
From: [identity profile] petronia.livejournal.com
As canonical as anything in the fanbook. That is to say, it wasn't stated as something that "could have been", or "seems likely"; it "was". How anyone is supposed to know this (other than the fourth-wall-breaking "because Konomi-sensei said so") is a whole 'nother barrel of oats.

Yeah. Yeah, well, it also states canonically that Yuuta's guardian spirit is a salamander. As in the fire kind. Basically, sometimes you've just got to smile and nod. Or write AU past-life fic, whichever is good for you.
