EDIT - [livejournal.com profile] ayatsujik, can't seem to find a working email addy for you. ^^; Your singles are here. Ha'e fun!

(Hullo, newly-friended people. Unbeknownst to you before this moment, friending me means you get cheesy Jpop oldies on the side. Lucky you!)

(...I should pay off Kekkai bandwidth for February, shouldn't I?)

So! There is retro Jpop making the rounds, and I am delighted. Was inspired to spend several hours last evening digging out and ripping Chinese compilation CDs of great age and doubtful vintage. This was going to be an exercise in My Oldies Are Cheesier Than Your Oldies, but instead it's a bit of a Tamaki Koji and Ozaki Yutaka lovefest. Live. XD

Tamaki Koji - Koi no yokan
Tamaki Koji - Aoi hitomi no Erisu

The difference between Anzen Chitai and Tamaki Koji's solo output: Anzen Chitai has electric guitar and Tamaki Koji singing. His solo schtuff has acoustic guitar and whisper-singing. ^^; Thus it is with these, which are actually his solo covers of Anzen Chitai hits. Koi no yokan is a wistful, minor-key waltz; Aoi hitomi no Erisu is a folksong-like ballad. Make no mistake, we're in adult contemporary chillout territory, but facetiousness aside these are some of the most beautiful melodies you're likely ever to find in jpop. If you like Sting unplugged, you'll likely love this.

Ozaki Yutaka - Rosanna
Ozaki Yutaka - I Love You (Live Version)

I babble to the point of yawn inducement about how much I love Ozaki Yutaka, but I rarely post the songs. Not sure why; possibly because I'm convinced he's a bit like French chanson, and it doesn't quite work if you can't understand the lyrics. But then, saints alone know why it works in the first place - I mean, "Rosanna" is eighties pop-country with a harmonica bridge, and yet I can't stop listening to it. One of those cases where the whole is greater than the arithmetic sum of the parts.

I put "I Love You" on, like, every compilation I send out. ^^; So some of you might want the live version.

Nakajima Miyuki - Jealousy, Jealousy

In all honesty, there are better Nakajima Miyuki songs. But this is a) a bona fide jpop classic, and b) weird enough to be worth a listen to any pop music aficionado. It's... proto-Latin, pre- Jpop's obsession with bossa nova and salsa lite, enka gone insanely flamenco. Props to anyone who can figure out the time signature well enough to karaoke the thing. (Though if you feel like trying, be warned that it practically requires Liza Minelli-esque gestures to go along with. ^^;)

Inoue Yousui - Teenager

Y'know, I always think of Inoue Yousui as being sort of like Johnny Halliday. Not that he sounds anything like, thank gawd, but... the same industry position, if that makes sense. Big Emotive Cheese appeal. Like this song, which is all of six years old but is musically of another era. The strings! The backing vocals! I should make a Prince of Tennis music video to it, it'd be a hoot. "Eikou no THIRTEEN~! Mirai no FOURTEEN~! Sekai wa FIFTEEN~! Namida no SIXTEEN~!"

a). You're in good shape for a few months on the karma scale :)
b). I get 700GB of transfer a month. We've never even so much as come close.
c). If we do go over, it'll be because of the MPGs of various TV shows and appearances that I mirror regularly for people, not because of your MP3s. Don't worry about it :)

Seven hundred -- holy Moses. ^^;

(I was thinking July for next time, as I'm trying to plan a trip to China this spring, and July is about as long as it'll take to pay it off. XD;;)

700GB. I [heart] me my hosting plan, indeed. (of course, I pay an awful lot for it, but still. Totally worth it. :)

oo, trip.

What else are MP3s for? XD I mean, I'd tell you to delete them after 24 hours for sample purposes... if it weren't for the fact that my so-called original CDs are crap-ass pirated discs from, like, Szechuan. So let's call a spade a bloody shovel. XD

I have a not-so-secret desire to run a mp3 blog anyhow. XD;;

Teenager makes me wonder what Suwabe Junichi would be like singing it. Thank you for making my day. XD

Sshhhh, you'll give him ideas. XD;;; (I've had nothing but mistrust ever since I realised that Atobe is in exactly the same pose on the Valentine Kiss cover as Sayuri out of Onyanko Club, only wearing a blue-striped jumper instead of a pink one. And sans 80's-style frizzy perm, thank the small gods.)

I think the reason they changed it to blue is that pink would probably clash with Atobe's complexion.

This... sharing of retro Jpop brings tears to my eyes. And joy for my ears. XD I should remember more often that when seeking for new music one most often look in the past.

Reliving 80s music through other countries. I love it.

Earlier you offered a couple of times to send me TF6 videos, but me being crack brain, kept forgetting to tell you that I found quite a few, and kept the best. (Namely Everyday at the Bus Stop. CHEERLEADER EXPLOSION. <3) A new one came out recently, "Magic in Your Eyes." Do you have it? If not, could send it your way.

Next time around I should do retro French pop, then. XD XD XD

Ooo, no. *_* I actually only have vids for Je t'aime je t'aime and Love Is Forever, do you want them? Both have cheerleaders. XD (Can you FTP up and down, or should we do discs?)

Yes! French pop! You would slay me with happiness.

You really have the best of her videos-- the rest get repetetive (she LOVES sports. and cheerleaders). Let's try discs? The files are large, I'm not sure I have THAT much space on my harddrive.

...Between you and Isabel and Kristin, I might never need to buy my own retro jpop ever again. XD

Not really true, but the iTunes library sure makes it look that way. Wheee!

Sure, go ahead. They'll be up until Shi Lin finds them, which going by her current schedule may not be for a while. ^^;

THANK YOU. ♥♥♥♥

My flist, yanno. My flist. Bosom of joy, seat of wonders, and all that. XD Looking forward to what you think of FMA, and re implausibility of wistful Fuji-angst: ooh, insight *cue Atobe BGM*, but I can't see how he'd go about being a silent hurricane with Yuuta, at least. Siblings are scary things. Was I guilty of Fuji-angst? Probably. Ah well. It wasn't a *conscious* effort. XD;

You are welcome. ^_^ And yes, what would we do without our flists?

It's not so much that I think you're (or anyone else is) getting it wrong. It's that my ficcish subconscious leads me in a different direction. And it took a while to pin down, because I don't typically have to make a conscious break with what other people write. I'm not that original. XD

(I get this with PMK as well. The series is fluffcrack half the time, but I'm never going to able to write anything for it that's not deathly depressing, I get the impression.)
