Crystal Kay - Boyfriend (Acoustic Version)
Crystal Kay - Boyfriend (Album Version)
Crystal Kay - Boyfriend -partII-
Crystal Kay - What Makes Me Fall In Love

Only the second best song off Almost Seventeen (the first being the sweet funky old-school groove of "Girl U Love"). Part II is the up-tempo single mix as produced by m-flo, whose sound is so readily recognisable nowadays I don't even have to check the credits. My favorite is the unplugged acoustic take, though: it brings a tear to my eye. The girl has soul.

The last one is the English version, which is all right (CK is American by way of nationality), but the Japanese lyrics are much, much better.

(Actually some Jfan put this down for Atobe x An 100 Questions, which I don't buy - the song call, that is to say, I totally ship the pairing OMG - but it reminded me to post the song.)

And to prove that jpop is not the only thing I listen to, the Hawksley Workman single I bought months ago and always meant to share but never got around to doing so:

Hawksley Workman - 01 - Anger as Beauty
Hawksley Workman - 02 - Love Will Tear Us Apart

Hawksley pwnz j00. Even if he does LWTUA as a sloooooow waltz that's constantly stumbling out of signature (Hawksley is a one-man show from vocals to instruments to production, so no need to share out the blame XD). And as a bonus from the ensuing Lover/Fighter album:

Hawksley Workman - No Reason To Cry Out Your Eyes (On The Highway Tonight)

Which is a Perfect Pop Moment (tm), and no doubt the lyrics are profound and poetic and all, but as with all Perfect Pop Moments the only reason to learn them is so one can sing along. *g*

(How lame do you reckon it'd be if I bought a Kylie album solely for "Can't Get Blue Monday Out Of My Head"?)

I've wondered this before, but you've just reminded me: why don't English fen do those 100-question thingies? Or kiriban riku? I mean, I abhor the hiding of ura peeji as much as the next smutmonger, but there are some facets of J-fan web culture that we could stand to adopt. I suppose we don't do the 100s because we're all too busy doing LJ memes, and we don't do kiriban because nobody has a counter anymore, let alone a counter with a name that's shaped like some unspecified but small & cute alien animal.

Actually I know a lot of fanartists who do kiriban requests. But it does indeed depend on whether you have a counter; the tracker I use is very good for, well, tracking referrals and compiling statistics, but useless for counting front-page hits per se.

I'm very sure everyone would be doing 100 Questions if there were translated versions. *g* The problem is there's a [X number] Questions list for everything under the sun, and only so many people who'd be willing to translate them (it has apparently not yet occurred to anyone to write independent English versions thereof). It'd work like a lj meme, though, not like how the Japanese post them on their webpages. Maybe someone very enterprising could create a quiz-like code for it.

I'd love to make 100 Questions things for my various fandoms, but for the unfortunate fact that I can't translate the original questions to make a template.

What kinds of questions get asked in those things? /curious

Typically it starts off with things like, "When did you first start to like [character/pairing]?" "If you could describe [character] in one word, what would it be?" "Do you see [pairing] as WAFFy or angsty?" "What do you think [geeky character detail] is all about?" If the list is well-written - and I do believe there's an art to it XD - the tenor of the questions will gradually increase in dorkiness until you get to things like, "[pairing] is getting married and all the [series] characters are there. Describe the bride's dress!" So you finish reading the person's answers with a very good idea of what kind of fic said person would be likely to write.

Thanks for the music share. I've liked Crystal Kay ever since her Ex-Boyfriend single a while ago. I wonder if she'll attempt the "cross-over" along with Hikki and her supposed future English album.

I agree about the 100 questions and the kiriban. It's weird to see something *so* prevelant in Japanese fandom, but does not hop over. We get all yaoi tropes, but not the 10,000 hit thank-ye picture...

You're welcome. ^_^ Crystal Kay has an English album out already, methinks, but I don't know how widely available it is.

100 Questions may be too long for livejournal meme culture. Twenty questions, perhaps? I could come up with twenty questions per OTP easy. :P

20Q is much more manageable, but in that space it's hard to achieve the same manic pitch of ascending (descending?) dorkiness you described above. XD

I rikes the acoustic "Boyfriend" also. And, um, the up-tempo one.
