New Year's
Jan. 1st, 2004 11:31 pmAttended three parties last night; family friends and two personal circles. Much fashionable lateness and reluctant tearing away. (The part of me that likes Wildean epigrams and old Guerlain perfumes and so forth is vastly amused by having a social life that demands the application of logistics. The part that wants to damn the floating world and bury itself in comix occupies a bigger slice of the pie chart, though, so I can only muster the attentiveness to detail necessary for one perfect evening out every couple of months. XD) There was lobster, and rosé, and various drinks at points, but by midnight I was at Saphir with T & Ced and missed out on the champagne distribution, now that I think on't. Though I've gone off alcohol unless I'm personally doing the pouring, methinks... It was fun. Saphir on the right nights plays good music on both floors, for value of "good" equals "that I like", and the goths and dandies were out in force. Had to dress for all three vastly different occasions, so was in an black ankle-length lace affair, laces up the back and little jet buttons up the front, that looked vaguely old-fashioned and basically doomed me to dancing like a Lucretia on the top floor, as would have looked idiotic bouncing about. XD;;; Or some simulacrum thereof. I've never been very good at the magic circle bit.
Went to bed at four, slept in past noon, spent the rest of the day re-reading Swordpoint with brief detours for green tea, brandy and chocolates. Must take care to set the tone for the rest of the year, after all. XD
