Returned home after a long evening Christmas-shopping to find both
luxetumbra's package and luffly card from
luckykitty waiting for me, eee. *sparkles* Practically the first thing I did was scan in the Seasonal!Okita icon, but I guess I'll wait for Liz to release the art first? :D (If you're reading this before you get my mail, Liz XD) I am very spoiled for Shinsengumi this holiday season.
And now I have all of TeniMyu, upon which much havoc will be wreaked. <33 Apparently I've already traumatised Hayson with the select clips I left on the McGill computer. (But forget Hayson. XD What does Cammy think? That's the important part.) I... think I should seriously post a review of the thing, for value(review) == "m0xx0r1ng out of love". Or at least the tracklisting of the titles by which I personally refer to the numbers, such as Pink Is The Colour Of Victory or 3-6: The Happy Girlfriends Song.
Also, yes, Christmas shopping. It is a truism that Sabina will spend twice as much money on random swag for herself as she will on gifts. ^_^; I blame the clever bastards at DVD Passion who made "home boxsets" of their Miike Takashi alongside the Scorsese and the de Palma - because apparently there just are that many people who'd look at it and be like, hey, if you buy four Miike films at once you get 15$ off what you'd pay for buying them separately! Nifty! ...Actually, that thought is kind of comforting. It's like the first time finding an InuKai fic online, y'know; a sense of "Thank the small gods, I'm not the only weirdo in the house."
The Utena DVD was impulse-purchase insanity. Er. But now I have a t-shirt?
There were books as well, and prezzies for the sororial unit which I will not detail as she's going to be reading this tomorrow morning, but I was pretty decent about sticking to budget there. Mostly because poetry collections I wanted cost, like, five bucks a page, so I didn't buy any. >_>
Quick! Someone convince me that bad things will happen if I watch "Fudoh" and the Prince of Tennis musical in quick succession late at night... Nope, too slow! /is gone

Date: 2003-12-25 02:20 pm (UTC)Aside from the obvious greatness, the esoteric buddhist names of the whole cast kept cracking me up all the way through. And yes - the tattoo on the back of the main character IS the canonical representation of Fudou-Myouou and by the time we got around to seeing the tatoo on the nice lady's back I was one very happy fan indeed. :)
Oh, and that blowpipe... 8-) Wanna bet it was originally Miike-sensei's crackpipe and then after one particularly dizzying shot... :)
The sex scene, when we roll around to it, also earns money for sheer messedness up of it...
Background chant: WeLoveMiikeTakashi!WeLoveMiikeTakashi!WeLoveMiikeTakashi!WeLoveMiikeTakashi!WeLoveMiikeTakashi!WeLo...

Oh, yes, we do that. *g* It's hard to remember that in international-cinema-radar terms the man has only been around since '96 or so, he's made so many films since. (Why, he's the Terry Pratchett of, um, Japanese art-house splatter. XD) So how would you rate his more recent works? I find I'm actually quite fond of the couple I caught over the summer, "Yurusarezu Mono" and "Tougenkyou". It's nice to see Miike do restrained and heart-warming every once in a while, though one does keep expecting the other shoe to drop. *g*
