petronia: (Default)
 I bought a Boon high chair, $70 secondhand, from a Plateau couple who'd adopted twins from Vietnam (now 8). It is very easy to clean, which came in helpful within a couple of days when Alan had a vomit episode. ^_^; (This is how he deals with gagging on food, which usually happens when he takes a big bite of fruit or veg with his now four (4) incisors before I can stop him: expels it, forcefully, with the rest of the contents of his stomach.)

Alan's been working on sitting tripod, and I'm sure this is the week he stops falling over backward and hitting his noggin. He's also started to follow me around, though he gets very distracted by the bases and undersides of furniture. He's happy and proud to stand tall in his crib while holding onto the rail, but he can only do it when I put him in that position: it hasn't occurred to him to try and pull himself up, and I doubt he will until he's sitting easily. The Fisher-Price baby chair** is close to retirement at this point, though I'll keep it around for the big toothy smile when I turn the music on. (I would get recordings but I actually don't know what a couple of the songs are -- maybe original compositions.)

It's cooled down a bit since yesterday, but before that it was so muggy that my mother and I bobbed Alan's hair, so it wouldn't be on his neck and forehead all the time. He still has plenty left compared to other babies, but the cut makes him look startlingly like a little boy, instead of an androgynous Renaissance cherub. It feels like I've assigned him a gender in a way that I hadn't before. ^_^;

** It's basically a floor version of the infamous Rock'n'Play. I was honestly confused by the whole affair until I realized that in Canada the thing was never marketed as a sleeper! Alan did nap in it, as a newborn, but never during the night.
