MUSIC FOR BAKING
or any other form of kitchen-based therapy
01. Ono Lisa - A Volta
02. Keane - Dinner At Eight
03. Coralie Clément - Samba de mon coeur qui bat
04. Chara - Watashi wa kawaii hito to iwaretai (Murphy's Jazz Lounge Mix)
05. Sting - La belle dame sans regrets
06. Forro In The Dark - Cajuína
07. José González - Teardrop
08. Hajime Chitose - Wadatsumi no ki
09. Bebel Gilberto - Winter
10. Feist - Inside And Out
11. Julie London - Nice Girls Don't Stay For Breakfast
12. Madredeus - Oxalá
13. Beirut - Postcards From Italy
14. Buena Vista Social Club - Orquellecida
15. UA - Antonio no uta
16. Handsome Boy Modelling School with Cat Power - I've Been Thinking
17. Kylie Minogue - Chocolate
18. Stevie Wonder - All In Love Is Fair
BONUS 1: Rufus Wainwright - Dinner At Eight (Live at the Fillmore)
BONUS 2: ( Postcards From Italy: video. You should watch, it is moving or whatever. )
Sakki didn't make any particular request but I had the impression she'd been baking a lot recently as stress relief, so. XD I don't really bake so this is based off my occasional dinner-making forays with Justin (his taste in music and mine intersect in the general vicinity of Buena Vista Social Club): a glass of white wine or sparkling cider, gossiping about mutual friends while chopping leeks and deglazing the pan, &etc.
I wrote about "Postcards from Italy" here, despite which I still imagine I owe the world a lengthy entry about Beirut. The Keane track is a cover of Rufus Wainwright('s ode to dysfunctional button-pushing holiday family get-togethers), the José González is a(n acoustic!) cover of Massive Attack. Rumour has it the impetus behind The Police's reunion was Mrs. Sting**, who was tired of having the hubby underfoot, always smoking up, playing the hurdy-gurdy and singing lounge numbers in French. Hajime Chitose did the ED themes to Ayakashi and Blood+; the other day I learnt from Wikipedia that "Wadatsumi no ki" had been the third best-selling single of the year, after Hikki and Ayu, previous to which I'd assumed I was the only one who loved that song. I'm not sure how the Stevie Wonder track entered my life, probably a figure skating programme or some such.
You will enjoy this if you like: Sade, bossa nova, "Have You Ever Been Mellow?", creme tea and the scent of baking
