And there won't be many more left in the year, so I'm going for a walk. Concert review later (really). In the meantime you can dl a Styrofoam song off Music (For Robots) - I'd never heard of them (well, him technically) before the Lali Puna opener, but I got home and there it was on the music blog run, accompanied by a rant regarding Ben Gibbard and vocoders. ^^; Quite right too, but... well. I bought PSB's Release album, and I listen to it constantly, and dammit I like it. I think that makes me proof against wussy vocoder use.

And the guy is right. Gorgeous song regardless.

EDIT -- am told the link is down, which is fair enough given that the entry's fallen off the main page. XD;; Thus I uploaded it.

Styrofoam feat. Ben Gibbard - Couches in the Alley

Actually, as I was strolling along the waterfront humming this song to myself for lack of it on my mp3 player, I realised it was very much like a PSB ballad. Melodically, not just thanks to the Postal Service guy's wussy voice. >D The only thing that says it's not is production.

The trees planted along the first stretch of the canal (drained now for winter) are oaks, and they don't lose their leaves. They stay on the tree, leathery and reddish-brown, rattling in the wind until a storm tears them off or the new growth comes in. I'm sorry I didn't think to take a walk and look at them when they were still golden.

Now, for my sins, I sort of want to write a post about Hirakawachi 1cchome, wFL and rockism versus popism - except it would be more like assumptions of the American musical industry/audience versus assumptions of the Japanese musical industry/audience. What stops me is that the people on my flist who know these names are real popists, as opposed to uhh faux-populist intellectual wanktards like me (BY SAYING THIS SHE IS ONLY REDEFINING 'AUTHENTICITY' OH NOES), and thus... would really, really not care.

So, instead, I'll talk about video games.

...I think a boybander breeding sim would be really cool. The boi would hatch out of a sparkly pod, and you'd have to feed it and make it do jazzercises, and expend points on teaching it songs and dance moves. Depending on what skills you give it it will specialize into various classes on maturity. You could even have one that writes its own songs! Then you hook up yours with your friends' and teach them combo moves and give concerts.

(Wow, I bet you're all regretting trying to sl0re me on this stuff now.)

Or, Morr Music matsuri. It occurs to me that I should've written this earlier in the week, on the very off-chance that anyone was considering attending the last leg of their tour, but... oh well. ^^;

The rundown )

Post Scriptum: while searching for info online I found what appears to be my s3kkr1t Chinese music blog.

"和聲悅耳的嗡鳴超過機器嘎喳聲,電腦軟體電子碎屑爆裂聲等節奏的作用,將深藏潛意識的愁緒憂鬱與懷舊情緒勾勒而出,再以旋律和絕美的電子音色撫平心靈,這是充滿了溫暖以及情感的電子音樂,繼承了Kraftwerk的優良傳統。

疏離孤絕的都市生活,正需要這樣的音樂,相濡以沫互相取暖。"

(Basically what I mean when I say I can't write in Chinese. That's a category link, my Taiwanese twin set hirself the task of importing and reviewing the entire Morr Music discography. ^^; Check the most recent posts re Luna and Bebel Gilberto.)
