I think caithion's comment is apposite - the dark feel comes from Haku's not-humanness, like you're never quite sure if what he means is that he's going to drag her down to the bottom of the river and eat her. XD (Well, he does in a sense, of course, but...)

fable: GOOG And YHOO: A Story Of Hate & Love & Betrayal. Possibly the most genius pairing of all time (unless of course you come up with better NASDAQ slash, but the rules of the game are such that if you do you're obliged to write it). Everyone should read this and send it to all the employees at their software company and then - if you're like me anyway - flap and splutter something incoherent about Overture and Blogger. But mostly just read it. >D
