A conversation that should have been blogged long ago

Went out last week with dipping_sauce (before the teeth-pulling), and mostly sort of wandered around doing desultory shopping - bought FFT, a fact I also should've mentioned days ago - and babbling at the girl. ^^; Tried to explain the full brilliance/horror of the thing that is TeniMyu, as that was what was foremost on my mind at the time, which... eventually sort of segued into an explanation of the brilliance/horror existence of the thing that is F4, complete with Tin's Gloria Arroyo anecdote. ^^; Which led to the following attempt at cultural contextualisation:

Sabina: ...But see, American Idol and its ilk are missing the comic book vector. It really has to have the fictional basis, but I don't know what in North America even corresponds to that. Smallville, maybe?

Erin: So what you're saying is, if they had Tom Welling and Michael Rosenbaum--

Sabina: --start a boyband together. Exactly.

Erin: ...

Sabina: ...

Both: That would sell. That would sell like crazy.

Reading Initial D

And Bleach. Mostly Bleach, actually, and on the verge of collapsing into bed. But I want to know if Keisuke gets with the girl or not! >_> I'm betting not, as the series has an astonishingly bad record with lasting romance, but... perhaps she'll consent to wait the year out for him? -_-;;

(I do like Kyoko, and it took me a while to figure out why, apart from the fact that she is somewhat flakey but has excellent taste in men: it's archetypal sports shounen rivalslash, and presented as such. Except that, y'know, she's a girl, and therefore it could actually exceed subtext without incurring Gender Issues - if it weren't for the fact that IniD is IniD, and Keipi is a lonely driver big dork. *cries*)

Back when Project D first kicked off and I found out Ryousuke had a webpage, I laughed heartily and contemplated him blogging. Now I think about it and am like, he'd be exactly like everyone else on my flist! Really! "Blahblah updated webpage blahblah gross med school dissection stories blablabla fandom eating life blahblah watching WRC religiously blahblah have not slept for 72 hours blahblah exams eating life blahblah hacked SQL for street race database blahblah cute sibling anecdote blahblah ok falling over bed now kthxbai." Machigaenai, sou iu kanji deshou!?

...I have seven pages of unfinished Initial D fic. Seven pages. I didn't remember it being so much, I thought it was a snippet or two. And it stops right when the going's getting good. T_T

** I tend to like female characters who're flakey (not dumb, just odd) but have good taste in men; witness Orihime. If they're normal and sweet-natured it's horridly boring.
