petronia: (music)

Ever since I stopped posting in pitas my music rotation has sort of died too. ^^; I'll probably start a proper MP3 page on petronia.net, when I get around to making a CSS-menu'd layout for it, but meanwhile:

Southern All Stars - Kawaimiina

Is nice. Retro-pop-sounding.

...I'm really tempted to write Ginji into The Lay of Nine (yes, I can do it just like that *snaps fingers*, that's the beauty of the set-up), because I have a past-real-Japan and need a future-real-Japan anyway. The part I'm not enthusiastic about is having to write a rhyming couplet about Raitei if I do. Remind me next time I write a story with a prophecy in it, to make it unpronounceable runes.

Ah vell. Will go read other people's fic. That's the good part of getting into something late.

It's probably going to be like HnG, where all my bunnies are incredibly bizarre and wankish and then I sit down and write something normal about characters eating lunch or something. ^^;

No instinct for rhyme or metre at all, is the problem (and I can recognise the gift quite well when I encounter it in others). When I try to write poetry it always comes out forced.

The fun part is getting the various worlds to interlock in tiny intricate ways, which is what makes for the believability of a crossover. :P

i like meter, and rhyming things: the way you get a few words in and then they've echoes you need to resolve in the short and medium term. it's imagery and subject matter that're my weaknesses as a poet, i'm all blank page and 'why bother?'

(of course, fun doesn't necessarily = good; examples to follow)

the problem with couplets in particular is i get stuck in horrible jaunty doggerel meter:

with voltage from a thousand eels
he get backs things to earn his meals

or

ne, shido-kun (says g. amano)
it's not your birds, it's your birds' guano

*LOL* You see, that's precisely what I can't do. I don't have the ability to write poetry more rhyming-jangly than blank verse (which is, of course, just somewhat reorganised prose).

I wish I could use those, though. XD

The S.A.S. new song "Sea of Love" (or something like it) is all over the place these days. Ending theme of a fairly amusing love tangle drama called "My Own Madonna" or something like.

.... No, only tangentally related, but it was brought to mind.

I should buy some of SAS's albums. I'm a fairly big fan of their work.
