Yes, I'm posting like a right eejit at five-thirty in the morning because I finished the book - I need to set it down before I get contaminated by everyone else's views. It's brilliant. That is to say, I'm now a ball of utter misery. But the book is brilliant. From an adult reader's point of view (certainly not from a child's, unless you subscribe to the CLAMP Method Of Child Rearing, in which case by all means provide this book to your wide-eyed nine-year-olds), it's the best one so far.

I'm still miserable, though.

...And now I have to write a note to my sister that will convey - sans spoiler - that she will want to kill something after she's done. She's not as good at dissociating as I am, and her displeasure manifests itself through far more extroverted methods.

I am starting a society, Flight From the Phoenix, for people who like to read their books leisurely, rationally, and without having to stuff their fingers in their ears to drown out the the juggernaut wheels of the bandwagons and the shrieking of the mob. We will turn off our computers and read The Brothers Karamazov, Clarissa, The Journey to the West, Genji Monogatari (Waley translation) and Finnegan's Wake. Only when those are done will we return to the post-Phoenix fannish world, where people have gone back to ordinary squeeing over the ghei in PoT and GB, and will then read OotP in a civilized fashion, over tea. Lu-chan is welcome to join us.

She's done already, I'm afraid. ^_^; (She was the one hellbent on pre-ordering - if not I think I would have instituted a media blackout and picked up the book at my later leisure. It would have meant staying off lj entirely for weeks, but that's not such a bad thing necessarily.)

No, see, now that you know you have a good angsty book waiting for you, just pick it up at your convenience and read it in a leisurely civilised way. ^^; I have the horrible headache I always get when I stay up late reading and oversleep afterward, and right now it doesn't seem worth it at all.

And she let you read it first? My. One aftereffect of OotP is that people are defining spoilers down terribly. Definitions of words=spoilers! I'm interested in seeing when spoiler-time ends (the time when we can mention the spoilery events sans cut tag as accepted canon)

I have spoiled myself enough to establish that Conceit has not been made irrelevant and I will wait to read the book.

Tho I must admit, I just find the HP fandom to be curiouser and curiouser now. Then again, I was always more interested in the fandom than the source itself.

I worked on Saturday, so she read it from 4pm (when the book arrived) to 9pm bedtime. Then I read 10pm-5am, and finished it. ^^; Then she read 6am-3pm.

I'll give accepted spoiler-time a month, but people'll probably slip up before then.

Sigh.

I live in a tiny city in a tiny province in a tiny Third World country.

I don't think I'll be able to get that book until I leave for London in August, by which time it'll probably be sold out.

HP sold out? You're kidding, right? ^_^; They're the easiest books to find ever, and in a dozen different editions at that.

(Hey, *you'll* be in London too come September?)
