Things I learnt today that I could probably have survived not knowing:

  • The "Gregorian" version of Depeche Mode's "Blasphemous Rumours" that for months [livejournal.com profile] helvetius and I have joked must be a plainchant cover done by monks... turns out to be a plainchant cover done by monks.

  • Upon which note, it appears they got the Vienna Boys' Choir to cover the Back Street Boys.

  • Not only are people still writing Lex/Eminem, there are more of them. The WHO expects the epidemic to worsen before it's brought under control.

  • Lex Luthor's rapper name is purportedly "LL".

  • Crowley x Aziraphale in a Japanese high school AU... bears a disturbing but distinct resemblance to Kaga x Tsutsui.

(Yes, I can use this as a condensed newsfeed of my lj-friends if I want to, and yes, I did mention "could survive without knowing", didn't I?)

They did a cover of Join Me (which I've now heard no fewer than three versions of and have no idea if the H.I.M. version was the first or not) too. And numerous other things that you would not have expected to be covered by monks. At least, not monks with straight faces.

I suppose if God has a sick sense of humour, there's no reason those dedicated to Him couldn't. *g*

How is the Lilly Chou-Chou soundtrack on it's own? Her music in the movie really reminded me of Bjork. They really captured that "ether" feel though.

I love it to pieces. ^_^ There are actually two soundtracks - "Arabesque", which has all the Debussy and the high school chorus and Okinawan folksongs etc. - and "Breathe", which is the Lily mini-album with all her songs that were in the film (and a couple that weren't, I think). They're both very good. If I'm not mistaken the Lily album was actually the first part of the project - the director literally got the CD produced, got it into the stores, built the fansite and wrote an internet novel based on the BBS responses he received, which was then turned into a script.

Yeah... note also covers of "Blue Monday" and "Ordinary World". o_O; Actually, it would appear that finding pop songs to cover in Gregorian chant is a difficult task, since there are certain notes, chords etc. that one can't use if one is to be true to the form, so one must take what one can. But... someone in the monastery is obviously much with the synth...

Unlike certain individuals I will refrain from the easy answer to that question. XD

my instant response is, of course, a song lyric. XD from a NON-synthy Manc band! (gasp!)

"cover us in chocolate; sell us to the neighbours; frame us in a video..."

*coughs* ahem.

i'm sorry. i'll show better restraint next time, i promise.

Wow, I had no idea it had been set up like that.

I liked the music in it a lot, but I'm a little afraid it'll keep making me think about the movie. It was by far one of the most disturbing films I have seen, and actually had difficulty going to sleep afterwards. I just kept thinking about the characters and how messed up things were in the end. The trip to Okinawa was so strange and I know that it had been a turning point for Hoshino but it left so many questions.

It was such a weird, harsh movie, but I didn't think it was set up like the spectacle that Jisatsu Circle was. (Not enough blood? Here's some more!) I keep recommending people to see LCC but I don't think I want to see it again, not for awhile anyway. The music definitely added to the haunting impact of the film.

Here's (http://www.lily-chou-chou.com/holic/index.htm) the real Lilyholic site, if you're interested. ^_^ The director is running it as "pascal", and was under the cover id of "satie" before he came clean about it being a media project. XD So I suppose the posts in the movie under those names are actually him (!).

(There's an English side, I think, but I haven't been. http://www.lilychouchou.com on the other hand is by the international distributor IIRC.)

I have a rambly review of the film here (http://sabina.pitas.com/24_03_2003.html) on my pitas blog, which has most of my thoughts on the film. Basically yes, it's a wonderful movie, and I'm in no hurry to see it again either. XD
