...I just got livejournal comment spam for financial services. In Chinese.

Is this a new thing or have I just been lucky so far? Should I turn off anonymous posting? Report to abuse?

Abuse won't tell you to do anything -- we can't do anything about harassment in comments.

Best thing to do is to delete the comment, set your commenting preferences to screen anonymous comments -- thus ensuring that non-LJ users can comment at you, but requiring you to approve anonymous comments before they show up on your page -- and turn on IP logging, if you don't have it on already.

(I get anonymous comment spam all the damn time, sadly.)

Ah, okay. :) I thought I had IP logging on, actually, but it didn't show...

ZD.net had an article recently titled how spam could destroy the Internet. That seems less and less alarmist to me as time goes by, alas.

I've also gotten some of those anonymous spam comments. What really cut them down from me is the thing that blocked web spiders in your options, whatever it's called. :D
