Baby diary: 14 weeks
Mar. 20th, 2019 03:34 pm On Friday M. (my upstairs neighbour) and her little one S. (7 months old, Alan's been wearing his hand-me-downs) came down for a play date. When they arrived M. was like, "The weather's so nice, why don't we go for a walk? :D" So we did. I'd never taken Alan outdoors, required car trips aside, and I guess I needed someone to startle me into taking a step. XD;
It went fine -- we walked along the neighbourhood commercial street for nearly an hour, even popped into a shop or two. A. napped a bit in his baby carrier and stared around. Yesterday I took him out again, to the supermarket to grab a couple of items. Today I went whole hog and took him to a 10am Mom & Baby yoga class two subway stops away, given by the instructor who gave my prenatal yoga classes. It was the biggest group they'd ever had at that studio, apparently: two of the other women who'd been in the prenatal class last year also came with their babies, for the first time. (Weather determines life, in Montreal.) There were ten girls, Alan was the only boy, but he's the same size as the 6-8 month old girls. XD;
Anyway. This was fun but a whole production -- baby's 17lbs so I was probably carrying 25, above zero but still cold out, very warm inside the studio so I eventually had to strip him down to his diaper, had to feed him and change him and so on. It was so much excitement he conked out in the subway home. Then he had a bath and is sleeping again. If I just want to do yoga I'm better off with home practice, but I do want to get A. used to being around other people and babies. We'll probably go once every couple of weeks, unless it makes him sick or something. :P
Other than that: he can shake a rattle now, and hold an orange -- briefly. He can pretty much hold his head upright, which is why I'm more comfortable taking him places in the baby carrier. But he still has face eczema (I think), off and on, which I'm afraid I'm dealing with by putting a bit of my own leftover prescription Betaderm on him, every couple of days, so that's a question for his 4-month well-baby check-up. And sleeping in his big crib is not going well: he's getting suspicious of me putting him in there at all. XD; It's because when he throws his arms out he can't touch the sides, but if I put padding it rather defeats the purpose. So for the past two nights I've given up and put him to bed next to me, and we sleep gloriously with only a couple of wake-ups for milk.
