Baby diary: 7 weeks
Jan. 30th, 2019 04:35 pm My GP, who also sees Alan, suggested I get The Wonder Weeks book. I find it more interesting for the explanations of new, learned behaviours to expect, than actually predicting fussy periods -- they're there, but the swings aren't Jekyll and Hyde level, so at any given moment it's still difficult to say what's going on.
This is definitely a fussy week. (Starting a couple of days ago.) He wants to eat more, and also be held more. On the bright side, he fell asleep last night snuggled prone against my chest, in the "skin to skin" position - this sounds normal, but since he came home from the hospital he's treated it as "tummy time" and refused to lie quiet, or even stay still to be burped. His neck muscles are pretty strong, since he's always struggling to hold his head up even when it's not necessary. >_>

New stuff:
- Definitely more spit than before. Is experimenting with his tongue and doing "bleps"
- Laughs when I say "yawn" and "a-choo." Starting to pick up these patterns?
- Turned to the side on the changing mat, by lifting his feet up very high then rotating his legs into a side twist (as they say in yoga)
- Crying is more varied and modulated - including, now, "holding breath for a few seconds and turning dark red" >_> He is conservative with his energy, though: saves his shrieks for when we're working on it but things are not moving fast enough for his liking, rather than if nothing is happening and he needs people to show up and be accountable

Date: 2019-01-31 02:37 am (UTC)Say what you will about Dr Sears What To Expect The First Year, but I found his book an extremely useful reference material. Then again, I may or may not have a reference library of baby/toddler books. Some of the books were more useful than others. Some people go crazy with baby blankets, I went a tad nutso with babybooks.
Where.are.my.pictures???? ;)

Date: 2019-02-01 07:49 pm (UTC)Mostly I've just read in Tiny Tot to Toddler, which is the Quebec government's reference book - it's a brick they issue you as soon as you get pregnant. But it's much more in the way of practicalities (what to do about breastfeeding problems or childhood illnesses etc.) and less about the science of brain development.
