I got a DeviantArt account
Mar. 26th, 2011 02:06 pmTo test their HTML5 painting tool at SXSW. Longish story. Devart really saved my life that day, I was so stressed from having to take work calls and there they were with a lounge full of crayons and craft paper and Wacoms. In return I gave their videographer a glowing testimonial in my capacity as web strategist so they can go home and justify their ROI XD;;
They don't want to be known as the go-to repository for crappy teenage anime fanart - I mean, there's a lot of analysis that could be done on the strategy here, if I were getting paid for it, and I don't have as much background on Devart as I do on the misalignment between LJ's business case and their actual user base over the years, because... I basically visit the site to trawl for anime fanart. Bawling. So I'm not helping anyone's case here. But look:

Pas de trois: Tot x Nagi x Omi by ~petroniasabina on deviantART
This was done in 2001, in ink pen and coloured pencil on sketchpad paper, with the background and text added in Photoshop. No references, no touchups. Who the heck was that person!? I don't think I could do this now.
