House of Five Leaves: the opening theme to this sounds like - and I say this in the most complimentary way possible - something they'd play in Banana Republic. (Air remixing Phoenix. Michael Mayer remixing Kylie. Annie remixing Saint Etienne or vice versa or whatever.) Obviously, they have the same target audience as Banana Republic, i.e. me. >_> I have kinda slept on this Immi person I guess?

Anyway. I haven't actually read the manga, because I buy Ono Natsume and there is too much of this one. XD; I have the Ristorante Paradiso side stories sitting on my desk upstairs and haven't gotten around to reading them. I sort of can't believe Ono Natsume wrote a samurai story and it... got animated by Manglobe, like what just happened there. You think you were confused, try watching this right after you wrap the SSBB historical romance issue. Dude did you just FTB on that action. Did you. The sad-sack protagonist is voiced by Namikawa "Rock" Daisuke, last heard when sororial unit and I were LOLing over clips of the Japanese dub of Merlin**, so evidently he's doing a good line in Long-Suffering Dudes.

...Do you think they'll ever animate the Italian politicians BL? Will it be better or worse than the Sex Pistols OAV? LET'S TAKE A VOTE.

Have not yet watched yesterday's Doctor Who ep. It took ages to download so ended up watching Rose with T and then I just kept on watching Image of the Fendahl. Which has comedy characters named Martha and Jack Tyler. IDEK.

** Frighteningly natural. I mean it could basically be Kyou Kara Maou or something.

not only does that theme song sound like something that would play at banana republic, but it also seems hilaaaariously out of place with the animation. samurai champloo mixed with hip-hop, fine, but it looked right for it, too, no?

i looked up clips based upon this, and lol'd. XD

I read the first part of your post 3 times, going back to the beginning in complete mindboggling. desperately trying to visualise how could anybody POSSIBLY make a manga (let alone anime) out of House of Leaves (http://www.amazon.ca/House-Leaves-Remastered-Mark-Danielewski/dp/0375703764/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1272239280&sr=8-1). Which you read, yes?

the first eight chapters are up for web reading

http://www.sigikki.com/series/houseoffiveleaves/index.shtml

but yeaa when people mention the anime I think of house of leaves first because that book REALLY traumatized me

I like the Italian politician BL series xD not sure it should be animated though since half the appeal (like all her manga really) is in the panelling. actually I like it more when it's not specifically BL, like the side story about the politician's brother sulking because the scientist forgot his birthday or something. ahh so cute.

I'm quite fond of Image of the Fendahl. They were doing some excellent pseudo-horror stories in that period.

Yeah - I wasn't sure about Ristorante Paradiso, but they really pulled out all the animation plugs on Saraiya Goyo, so that makes up for it. I wonder, though - I mean this isn't Bebop or Champloo, it doesn't have that much action... or does it.

I made a chart somewhere of the character relationships in her Italy-verse but never scanned it in. XD

Oh man, Image of the Fendahl is awesome...I love Leela stories, and anything that combines Doctor Who with Cthulhu-esque ancient horrors is automatically awesome in my book. :D

I like Leela too... for some reason this is the period the current Who reminds me the most of, not sure why as Amy has thus far not threatened to knife anyone. XD A general vibe, I guess.

Not gonna lie, if Amy did pull out a knife and start cutting a bitch, I would be deliriously happy. XD

And yeah, it kinda does have that vibe to me! Maybe it's because Moffat tends to go for the horror, at least in part, and also because of the whole Doctor-as-fairytale/mythical-figure that seems to be working with both Leela and Amy.

There's a lot of electronica BGM too, and IMO it works well, but yeah - it's not an overriding aesthetic the way hip-hop is. More of a "guessing you'd like this".

I'm being forced to watch a certain amount of Merlin, and it is basically a terrible shoujo Asian drama. Like, if Merlin were a sensible put-upon female protag being bullied by the rich-boy dick hero it would be extremely obvious, as it is it's somewhat obvious. XD;

I'm pondering writing a comparison between this and The Eleventh Hour, because they both ratcheted the tension up effectively only to have it dissipate with the reveal of belief-suspension-challenging monster effects. XD; IDK maybe in a few more decades ppl will look back on bad 90s/00s CG with nostalgia?

Heh. I admit the effects do fail both somewhat, but I'd enjoy reading the comparison.

I don't think Kuma to Interi could ever be animated, just because it's boring in the way that doesn't get slice-of-life-anime'd. I bet it would be better than the Sex Pistols OVA, though, ugh, it is going to be a hectic mess, i'm convinced.

I don't actually want to see Kuma to Interi animated. XD Thing is, when I started reading Ono Natsume I would never have expected any of her work to be animated - and now it's like, apparently Hoshino Lily's shoujo series is getting an anime? OBVIOUSLY I AM A DEMOGRAPHIC, BUT HOW IS IT EVEN DEFINED.
