Melissa Gregory, Denis Petukhov and Johnny Weir - Sarabande Suite [Marshall Showcase, 2007]
But no, it's tasteful. I PROMISE. [1]
My sister discovered request forums for figure skating vids, so for the past few days we've been watching digitized versions of crappy old VHS tapes of Brian Boitano programmes I still remember despite the fact that I was, like, seven. This exercise aids in the (re)discovery that 1) flesh-coloured tights technology has advanced by leaps and bounds in my lifetime, 2) Blades of Glory is basically a roman à clef (can one say "ciné à clef"? I've always wondered), and 3) Johnny Weir is a pretty, pretty ballerina.
A SIDE-BY-SIDE
Oksana does Tchaikovsky
Johnny does Saint-Saëns (w/ bonus Bald Kurt)
The sad thing is that it's the second piece that reminds me automatically and overwhelmingly of ballet class, since we did the entire Carnival of the Animals suite (I was a kangaroo).
[1] That being said, WTF Marshall Challenge? I mean I know that people in the U.S. don't watch the same sporting events covered with the same bias but every once in a while I'm confronted by THE CRACK.
