Hamster!Ginji sleeping on snake!Ban fanart at the back of volume 34. XDDD (Ayamine: "O I know what that is, that was in the news! Gohan-chan, right ♥")
This I have to say, volume 34 >>>> the preceding several volumes taken together in terms of interest.
Questions answered:
Yup, that's all for the volume. I don't know when Ginji will get to do something again. =_=

Questions answered:
- No, you don't have to have all three Keys. =_= You only need one Key to unlock Heaven's Door, but the Archive(r) will only allow one person to go through - the strongest one. Ergo the Key is a ticket to yet another (increasingly restricted-membership) battle tournament, which even has a name but frankly at this point...
- Recap: Kagami still has Himiko, the Voodoo King still has Shido, and the GetBackers still have themselves.
- Kagenuma Sarai (longhaired bindi dude) is trying to stop the Voodoo King from achieving his goal, because he Knows What's Going On (tm). Currently has hooked up with Teshimine post-herbal tea and is going to show him etchings or summat. Why is he wearing a giant winged eel? FUSHIGI MYSTERY.
- Recap 2: Akabane's in charge of transporting Hevn to Kurusu Masaki. Seems determined to enjoy the current fights as a bystanding connoisseur. Ginji-kun not happy, but when is he ever?
- The Miroku clan are sort of like knights who serve and protect witches, who can't fight for themselves (I guess this would be witches other than Ban, his dad and Maria, then), hence 'tres ritter'. Is everyone with me when I say, "WTF is this, Final Fantasy 8?" ...Anyhoo, I'm not sure if this is the case for all the Miroku or just the heir, but they're seven-in-one because they're supposed to train separately and finally combine into one super-powerful fighter
like Voltron. The personality to take over in the end would have been Yukihiko, since he's the strongest and can use the black-hole attack, but Natsuhiko and the others refused because they wanted to be around to avenge Eris i.e. kill Ban, so they rebelled and went off. However Yukihiko was called back by his father (old bearded knight dude, Miroku Shimon) in order to help defend Der Kaiser. - Paul takes out the first two knights in short order (Ayamine admits he doesn't even know their names - "the data's filed in a folder somewhere"), upon which he takes on Shimon who's always been gunning for him, upon which Paul... pulls a Genkai. XD OKAY I'M SURE SOME OF YOU KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. Except to actually defeat Shimon he has to go back to normal and put his sunglasses on.
- A Honky Tonk interlude: Natsumi explains to Rena how she always suspected Master wasn't quite "ordinary", ever since she found out he could tell whether a pot of coffee was brewed from over-roasted beans from across the room. Also his sunglasses are actually opaque, isn't that droll?
- Paul vs. Der Kaiser: lengthy flashback mode on!
- GB v1.0 begins not unlike GB v3.0: Der Kaiser wanders into Paul's territory in Ura-Shinjuku, they beat the crap out of each other, have a cigarette and in a flash of inspiration decide to start a retrieval business together and call it the GetBackers (it was the best name they came up with, let's put it that way). I mean, it looked like an ordinary cigarette but who's to say.
- Der Kaiser gets married, his wife get pregnant, the baby is born with a spikey Asclepius arm. D: Der Kaiser mumbles something about fate and makes the arm go back to normal. Paul pretends not to see anything. They name the baby Ban in accordance with his visible personality traits.
- Der Kaiser decides to take on Mugenjou alone, for Ban's sake. Paul informs him thru PUNCH INNA FACE that he will be of the party, because the 's' in GetBackers look you know this one. So first Der Kaiser makes a trip to Germany to talk to his mother and leave her with the wife and baby, then comes back to Japan (there is a lot of airfare involved :/), and he and Paul tackle Mugenjou with results as known.
- The fight goes from complex reiki attacks using empty air to bare-knuckles beatdown. XD;; The best repartee comes in an aside when Paul asks Ban if he thought he could defeat Ginji now, since Ginji was also getting stronger.
Ban: Of course! I'm the #1 of the outfit, I can't lose to the #2.
Ginji: (in all apparent seriousness) I have no intention of fighting Ban-chan, so technically the result can't be predicted.
Ban: ......*steps on his head* - Paul loses by a hair, Ban blocks the killing blow, Der Kaiser blows Ban into a wall, Ginji tries to step in, Yukihiko prevents him from interfering, Natsuhiko says to hell with this we're taking care of Midou Ban right now and boots Yukihiko. Because of the spechul nature of the Beltline, the Miroku can physically materialize simultaneously, but Ban defeats most of them in one pass. XD (I don't know if I'm sorry. Ayamine continuously laments his inability to drag out fight sequences, but if I had to watch Ban fight all seven Miroku one by one...) Then he fights Natsuhiko for like two full chapters. It's a pretty great fight as these things go in GB - the art often gives the impression that tankoubon size is cramping its style, but A&A seem to have begged a couple of extra pages a week off the editor and the results flow surprisingly better.
- Okay, Eris! Back when Ban and Natsuhiko were wee lads living in idyllic picture-book Saxony (I'm having weird flashes of Monster XD), Eris was... Natsuhiko's fiancee, or rather Yukihiko the "final personality"'s fiancee, which is odd because they were like 8-10 and she looked at least 15-16. And she liked Ban instead. Ban was like, "Is this shota?" KOCCHI NO SERIFU DA YO.
- Anyway, she was blond and had boobs, which explains a lot. Natsuhiko thought of her as an older sister, in a sort-of-hot, not-actually-related way, and was bothered by the idea that one day he would "disappear" and whoever takes his place was going to marry her but it wasn't going to be him and... anyhow he decided it would be simpler if Ban took Eris on instead, as at least he knew Ban. XD;;; However.
- Eris was dumb. She found about Ban's curse and tried to lift it, which got her entangled with the Voodooists who set their black thread seals on her and made her attack him. Ban had no choice but to kill her. Similarly, now he and Natsuhiko must have it out like men and make no excuses, because that's the only way Ban knows how to settle problems anyhow. (He even tells Ginji this, i.e. not to keep dashing into fights, because he's not like Ban in that he actually knows how to relate to people other than beating the crap out of them, so should exercise that ability in lieu of following Ban's noxious example. XD)
- You know what happens when Ban does snakebite with his left hand? SNAKE GENOCIDE. No srsly.
Yup, that's all for the volume. I don't know when Ginji will get to do something again. =_=

Date: 2006-03-12 06:54 am (UTC)Pulls a Genkai - he fights as a 15 year old girl? or wrong Genkai? XD at any rate Paul's opaque glasses was such classic shounen I had to squee. How better to train for apocolyptic battle than to pour coffee blind?
latest chapters in Shounen Mag just concluded Ban vs
his unbelievably hot fatherDer Kaiser...no subject
Date: 2006-03-12 07:43 am (UTC)obviously I need to go to bed because I read that as "Make out like men" and was all like "Oooh, Ban makes out with Natsuhiko? Hot. Toshiki must be pissed though, since Ban made out with him first..."

Date: 2006-03-13 12:20 am (UTC)Oh, yeah - I liked the effect where Ginji turns around and sees Akabane and suddenly it's like Akabane is 50ft tall and the voices of the others' are disappearing down a dark tunnel... XDDD

Date: 2006-03-13 01:03 am (UTC)P.S. I don't know if you're watching the Bleach anime but the scene in ep 71 where Shunsui tries to wheedle data out of a stonewalling Mayuri totally reminded me of 'Contagion'. :D I was like, "He should've sent Nanao!"

Date: 2006-03-13 05:39 am (UTC)Would that they could translate this to anime. I had much love for Paul in the anime, and felt he got way too little screen time. (Of course, I missed about one-fourth of the episodes, so who am I to say?)

Date: 2006-03-13 06:42 am (UTC)...is it a bad thing that some of the sexiest scenes ever animated/drawn (to me, anyway) are fight scenes?
